Would you wait 8 days?

Afternoon all

So woke up at 5am with throbbing toothache, which hasn't abated over the last few hours but that said, I haven't got to a chemist yet for painkillers so have only used saltwater.

The tooth in question is being removed next week - it was agreed an extraction would make more sense than a filling as the cavity is so close to the nerve.

Would you wait it out for a week or would you press for the removal to take place quicker? It could just be that the nerve is more exposed now or there is material stuck in the hole causing aggravation (have been brushing and flossing but so far back I wouldn't know).

What I don't want is an infection/abscess/sepsis.

Do dentists have emergency slots and would this count or would you just self-medicate for a week?

If I had throbbing toothache which didn't stop then yes, I would ring my dentist at 8am tomorrow for an emergency appointment.

Yeah see if they can do it sooner for you!
It's very painful!

Try putting paracetamol directly on the tooth - Calpol works for this if you have any

Might make you few better until tomorrow

If your dentist isn't able to get you in for whatever reason, if you have a dental hospital in your area go there!

Thanks for the advice. I do have a low pain threshold but ordinarily don't like making a 'fuss' /being a wuss, but not sure I can hang tough for a week. I am a very old kid on the block for a start
Will look for calpol now.

Get some orajel, chemist will sell it, you could get it from a pharmacy in a large supermarket if you have one near by. It numbs the tooth and gum. It will definitely help until you can speak to the dental surgery

Or a clove.

I recently had something similar

NHS dentist saw me within 2 days. Put me a temporary filling in which shielded the nerve - left it still very sensitive to heat and cold but not in between times. Extraction was booked and carried out 1 week later.

I was pretty impressed - I thought it was likely I would be left in agony for weeks.
