If you move house, are you supposed to get it professionally cleaned?

If you move house are you meant to get it professionally cleaned on the day you move? How do you practically get this done if you have movers packing all your stuff etc etc? We can't vacate before we complete.

Some people some don't.
When we moved we got movers to start upstairs and we cleaned a room as it was cleared and finished downstairs.
If you give the bath, kitchen etc a deep clean in the week then it'll just need a wipe over from any dust etc.
Otherwise it's just dusting and hoovering really!

BlueSurfer · 08/08/2021 14:06

No but you really should make sure it’s cleaned to a high standard. Most people clean as soon as they move in and some will hire a cleaning company to arrive before the moving lorries arrive.

No , I just go into rooms as the packers leave and clean behind them.

No. If you are selling, when would you find the time? I have always cleaned a house before moving in and out and so I would consider a “professional clean” a waste of money.

OoglyMoogly · 08/08/2021 14:07

No you don't need to. A quick vac should be ok if you feel the need. Make sure the kitchen surfaces are clean and so is the bathroom but don't go crazy cleaning!

Candleabra · 08/08/2021 14:08

I did. And I had the almost new carpets professionally cleaned too

When I walked past the house the following week, all the carpets were in a skip outside!

ThatSunnyCorner · 08/08/2021 14:11

No. I clean each room once the boxes are packed. All the surfaces are clear so it's much easier than normal. Then I keep back the vacuum cleaner and cleaning stuff to do the last nip round as the removal company empty each room.

KindergartenKop · 08/08/2021 14:13

So is that basically what I need to do on moving day? Wait for movers to pack a room and then attack it with hoover and damp cloths?

I think I'm going to get professional cleaners for this move. I've let things get a bit on top of me and I can't imagine dealing with toddler and pets on moving day and trying to get the house to a reasonable standard when all the dust that's been hidden behind furniture for years is finally exposed Blush.

FinallyHere · 08/08/2021 15:30

Wait for movers to pack a room and then attack it with hoover and damp cloths?

Cleaning an empty room is not like cleaning a room full of furniture, is it? In preparation, make sure everything has been moved recently so there is nowhere needing really deep cleaning.

On the actual day have someone designated to vacuum the carpets, dust any ledges and it's done. Ask the removals people to start with the kitchen and bathrooms, so there is some more time to do these.

Once the removals people are gone, a quick check round the loos and it's ready.

Keep the box of cleaning things and vacuum cleaner with you, incase the house you move into has not been left clean.

I do. I’d feel really embarrassed if the buyers arrived to their lovely new home and it was full of my mess and dirt. It just seems polite to me.

Yes. It doesn’t take long, except the kitchen cupboards.

Yes, that's what I do. It doesn't take long when the rooms are empty.

She's not saying she won't clean it but asked if it's worth getting a cleaner or doing it herself
BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 08/08/2021 16:22

Someone I know has just sold his flat. Between exchange and completion the buyers asked for the lovely curtains he left at their request free-of-charge be dry-cleaned and the carpets professionally cleaned. He declined. Cheeky sods, they bought the property at 5k below asking-price, too.

Just finished cleaning my house. We move today. It was easy, hoover and mop each room has its cleared. Cupboards were cleaned as I emptied them. Windows done last week. Coming back before completion next week to be sure no weeds, cut grass and last hoover if needed. Lucky enough to rent between though. Do as much in advance do you just have to hoover and mop each room as it’s cleared
