Thanks

Thinking from the selling side

I've not done one for years but, in short, no! We sold our last stall to the chap behind us for £20 and came home with an empty car Grin My friend spent more on bacon barms than we made.

Being serious, we found irregular community events better than weekly type sales. And yes, it depends what you're flogging and how realistic you are on prices.

Daughter gave up as children went round other stalls and she came back with more than she took!

I hate eBay and their fees and also siding with the buyer even if you described it perfectly.

I would never do a car boot again. Clothes go for £1 an item for high street shops. If you try and charge any more, you won't sell them. It's not worth the time and effort IMO and you're unlikely to make a lot of money. I'd just eBay anything that's decent.

I love going to car boots as a shopper but wouldn't ever sell at one again.

People do expect stuff for peanuts, that's just how carboots work. Be prepared for hagglers. If you have lots of stuff to get rid of then go for it, may as well get some money in your pocket and will probably have a laugh or two in the process. You could always visit a couple of car boots to get the idea of how it all works.

Lego sells well, especially to traders, dont let that go for peanuts. Traders will be there as soon as you pull up in your car although these days because of covid, many sites are letting sellers set up before allowing the vultures on.
As a general rule, shoes usually go for £2 -£3, ladies clothes £1 - £4, coats £5ish
Games , depending on what they are obviously, around £2-£4.
Ornaments/cushions etc £2 ish curtains dont really sell for much regardless of the make.
The area the market is in can make a difference too. You will either hate it or love it, but you wont know till you try it !

Watch for a lot of people to swoop on you as soon as you get there and start unloading. I had one chap actually get in my car and start rummaging, and was offering peanuts for what I'd got. I was by myself though so if there's two of you you'll probably fair better than I did.

Definitely take a chair and a sense of humour, plus something to eat and drink so you're not spending what you are earning there.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 07/08/2021 21:36

If the Lego is in sets, make sure you check the resale values first.
