I'm ashamed to say that I bloody love flies!!

I'm sure I'm alone in this but I'm sat I brilliant sunshine in 30 degree heat reading my kindle and enjoying the potter patter of flies across my shoulders, also then gentle breeze passing gently.
Drives my family mad as they're constantly turning on the fans and swatting them way wildly.
Now I have to say I hate them inside or near food but as tiny masseurs they are bloody lovely!!
My argument is if people pay to soak their feet in buckets of water filled with fish nibbling at their dead skin, what's so wrong with flies???

That fly that is 'massaging' your shoulders has probably just flew to you straight from a pile of dog shit or a rotting animal carcas. How the hell can you enjoy having such germ ridden insects on your skin

Envy (not envy!!!)

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 07/08/2021 14:23

Good for you, OP. Flies are revolting to us but they play an essential part in our ecosystem, breaking down rotting organic matter, some also aid pollination.

TheBestCandidateByFar · 07/08/2021 14:25

They've got shitty feet. Ewwwww.

illuyankas · 07/08/2021 14:26

No, because germs, especially they love to land on rotten stuff/fecal matter.

Galassia · 07/08/2021 14:26

Flies like to land on shit so it’s a no from me if they want to massage my shoulders afterwards.

mutedrainbows · 07/08/2021 14:29

This really scares me 😂

HmmmmmmInteresting · 07/08/2021 14:30

This can't be real

CallMeNutribullet · 07/08/2021 14:34

They walk on and eat shit.

MorriseysGladioli · 07/08/2021 14:35

Do flies have lots of eyes?
Or just 2 huge ones?

crackofdoom · 07/08/2021 14:40

I am loving the randomness of this thread, and your unique viewpoint, OP. Even if I don’t share it- horseflies seemed to be really bad in the UK earlier this summer, and the scars from those bites still haven’t faded.

Topseyt · 07/08/2021 14:45

You can't be for real, surely! Confused

Whenever I go out into the garden each day (sometimes more than once) to clear up after the dog I find them all over each pile of shit. They'll home in on other animals' shit too.

If you are happy with them landing on you after that and smearing particles of it on your skin without swatting them away then crack on. 🙄🤔

Personally, I still keep a couple of cheap plastic fly swatters that I got for my DDs when they were small. I swat them away. When they finally land on a suitable inanimate object I try to splat them with my swatter, with mixed results.

Google it
Topseyt · 07/08/2021 14:46

I mean, I swat the flies away, not my DDs. 🤣🤣 They are grown women now.

dementedma · 07/08/2021 14:49

One warm day this summer I sat with my bare feet in our little pond and all the tadpoles came and nibbled them. Delightfully tickly

OldTinHat · 07/08/2021 14:49

🤢

Nope just you op!

Can’t stand the horrible buggers, we live next to farm field full of cows and are inundated with the ones that must feed off them then come in the house and bloody bite us! I spend most of my time killing them and they make some mess when you squash them blood everywhere. They also pop on everything and you can’t get it off Angry

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 07/08/2021 14:52

Poop **

CorianderBee · 07/08/2021 15:06

You love tiny shit covered insects? You know they land on animal feces right? They're putting poo on you.

Whingey · 07/08/2021 21:23

Man at work found a fly in his salad roll. If he hadn't put salad cream in he would have eaten it!

OddBoots · 07/08/2021 21:29

I can't say I love them but I am pleased when I see them (outside), flying insects are in worrying decline which doesn't feel like a problem unless you look at their role in our ecosystem.

drivinmecrazy · 07/08/2021 21:46

We'll I'm sure you'll all be happy to note that flies have gone beddy byes.
On another note, I have a toad in our pool that just won't budge!!
I was hoping for a nighttime swim, but whilst I can cope with flies I'm just not comfortable with sharing our pool with a croaking lizard!!
The universe is telling me it's time to call it a night
