Posting here for traffic. Very green reviews online. What's the mn verdict?

I bought one after glowing MN reviews. For me it was a massive mistake. I live in a very hard water area, and for me straight tap water is undrinkable here...I think I got lured in with the hype, I'm not sure why I thought my undrinkable tape water would be any better when fizzy.

So I guess it depends on how drinkable your tap water is in the first place.

I loved mine when the kids were younger. They used it every day, different flavours each time.

DPotter · 07/08/2021 14:25

Brilliant purchase. I love ours.
Just use it to have fizzy water. Tried the flavours and they were all pretty yuck, so ditched them.
Also live in a hard water area and I enjoy drinking it so good all round.

dementedma · 07/08/2021 14:30

Yup. Use it all the time.Massively reduced plastic waste.

Contactlesslenses · 07/08/2021 14:32

Love mine, I just have plain water, occasionally mix with fresh orange juice. I’m not a fan of the mixers.
I always get two gas canisters so always have a spare.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 07/08/2021 14:35

I love it. I live in a hard water area but I use a water filter. It has massively reduced our plastic usage.

MorriseysGladioli · 07/08/2021 14:39

Mine was a mistake, as I probably knew in my heart before I bought it.
I'm just too lazy to keep up with gas canister thingys and all that.
Also, my kitchen is too small to keep it out.
Once something gets pur in a cupboard that's it.
It's a graveyard of cookwear mistakes.

KatharinaRosalie · 07/08/2021 14:41

love mine, it's used constantly. Mostly with plain water but I love the syrups too, especially the mocktail ones

MumChats · 07/08/2021 14:42

No. They're fantastically expensive (£90 for the thing, then £20 for every gas bottle) compared to fizzy water from the shop that is about 15p for 2 litres. The environment thing is such a red herring imo given how much energy and materials go into manufacturing one and the postage and materials for sending spare gas canisters, compared with a thin plastic 2L bottle that can be recycled.

Was given one as a gift which seemed great at the time until I thought about it more. The flavour syrups are massively overpriced too. Im probably coming across as super stingy but ironically I'm not, it's just sodastream makes me grumpy because I think its just so overpriced!

GuyFawkesDay · 07/08/2021 14:42

Ours is used loads. We use their syrups and the ones from Lakeland but also just for adding to squash

BigasdaB · 07/08/2021 14:59

We use ours al the time. It’s £14.99 for gas (I use the Argos exchange) and that lasts ages and we use syrup. The only thing I can’t stand is the tonic water syrup but apart from that we love ours. Helped us significantly reduce our plastic waste.

LadyJaye · 07/08/2021 14:59

Use mine all the time and love it! Has both increased my water consumption, as I prefer sparkling water to still, and reduced the amount of plastic in the house.

The syrups are redonkulously overpriced (the ginger beer one is the only one that's worth it, IMO), but if I want something apart from ordinary sparkling water, I use it with ordinary diluting juice or pure fruit juice.

Quick tip - get two of the bottles, as that way, you can have one with plain water and one with some form of concentrate.

BeyondMyWits · 07/08/2021 15:07

Nope... expensive way to ruin your tooth enamel.

Fizzy stuff should be rationed, not drunk every day. My dentist told me he could tell I liked it. It seriously ruins tooth enamel.

tywysoges · 07/08/2021 15:17

I like mine, and use it a fair amount. I don’t use their syrups, the old ones were not nice and I haven’t tried the new ones (if they changed at all), but normal cordial makes nice drinks - favourites in this house are robinsons lime and mint, Belvoir raspberry lemonade and IKEA elderflower. There’s also a french one you can get from Sainsbury’s (forgot the name!), love their passionfruit stuff.

I also have two cylinders and exchange mine at The Range, never paid more than £10 for it, even though their website says it should be £12, so prices may vary across the country. Grin

badg3r · 07/08/2021 16:02

I love ours! It only costs £6 to exchange a canister here (abroad) so it is significantly cheaper than buying bottles.

tintodeverano2 · 07/08/2021 16:07

I loved mine, then Argos, where I used to get replacement canisters from closed and the nearest place I can get them from is 20 miles away so don't bother anymore!

nevernotstruggling · 07/08/2021 19:27

Thanks folks. I live in a medium city with at least 4 Argos and 3 the range so I think getting the gas will be easy.

A friend has one I'm fond of but I don't think they bother with the syrups just the regular squash like a few posters.

I'm a bit of a cola addict I'm wondering if this is a away to address it.

I know the dds would love the fizzy squash though I don't allow it often.
