Hi all. I'm thinking of next years travel ( if it's possible!) Its to stressful the thought of it this year!
Anyway I was thinking about taking the family to Puerto pollensa as Ive read some nice things about it.
Can I ask has anyone else been here and what is it like for teenagers, also what was your experience on the plane!? I've got this fear of being on a plane full of drunk passengers going to Palma airport, is this a bit of an urban myth or have you had this happen to you!!

I went there once against my better judgement. My ex used to go there every single year and stay in the same apartment. I went with him and his children and it was very British tourist on hold at if you get my drift.

Nice weather but no sense of being abroad and enjoying a different culture.

Might as well have gone to a British seaside resort.

Galassia · 06/08/2021 11:09

^^ on hold means on holiday.

Throwntothewolves · 06/08/2021 11:09

Majorca is very family friendly so the planes aren't normally full of the young party crowd like Ibiza flights can be. Of course there may be some who are off for a lads/girls weekend but in the main I've found it's families and couples heading for a holiday in the sun.

It depends when you go. We 've been to Mallorca a couple of times and one flight early on a Friday morning was horrendous as there were loads of stags and hens charging up and down the plane, shouting and carrying on.

After all, there is only one airport on the island so everyone who goes there, whether to get pissed in Magaluf or to a naice villa in Puerto Pollensa, they're all on the same plane.

I didn't particularly like PP either, it was just a bit bland. We usually stay in Paguera, which has three lovely beaches and some nice restaurants. Just about everyone else who goes there is German, but there's plenty of Spanish food available and the atmosphere is really nice.

I like Puerto pollensa, it was quiet and quite small. In all my years I’ve been on a flight with one stag party (blow up sheep being chucked about) and one hen party (high spirits but generally ok). Palma nova possibly has more life to it or Santa Ponsa.

We went to pollenca (about 10 mins inland from Port de pollenca) and it was beautiful. Pretty and traditional, we loved it. The coastal town is very touristy but depends what you are after

PeacheyPeach · 06/08/2021 11:25

@barbaraofseville I know that's my fear!! I think I would feel really intimidated if that happened on the plane!!

The cabin crew did their best, but I think they had to invent turbulence to force everyone to sit down.

On a brighter note Kathy from Emmerdale was on the flight on the way back. I haven't watched the programme for years, but don't know if she is still in it, but DP sort of knows her anyway, because she was the face of a company he used to work for.

What are the thoughts on port de sollar?
I think I just want to go somewhere with a nice house with pool. Lovely walks in to town in the evenings which is bustling with restaurants , shops and maybe a water park somewhere to take the kids for the day. But it not feel like Britain on sea !!

How old are the DC ?
It could be worth hiring a car and seeing some sights.

Travielkapelka · 06/08/2021 11:54

I love it there. It’s quite middle class English but absolutely beautiful especially around pine walk area. There are tiny bags of still calm water which is shaded by beautiful pine trees. It’s definitely one of the nicest seaside resorts I’ve been to. The old town of pollensa is stunning as is the old town of Alcudia. There are some great restaurants, some lovely shops. One of my favourite areas in the world. My teens still love it but it’s not party central that’s for sure

tanstaafl · 06/08/2021 11:56

Sorry , just read the OP properly!
You say teenagers.

I’d recommend a day at the Torrent de Pareis at Sa Calobra.
It’s a canyon walk/scramble starting at the sea , you go inland as far as you can make it. You can hire local guides too I think. We kinda followed a small group (at respectable distance) who had a guide.
The drive down to Sa Calobra is spectacular. Make sure you hire an automatic, so much easier.

The carrer del Calvari in the old inland town of pollenca is worth a half day. 365 steps up ( it’s more like 420 but anyway) to an old church. Great views. Reward yourselves at the bottom with lunch in any of the 4 or 5 cafes in the square.

Google maps is your friend here.

We go to Mallorca several times a year and never had what you describe.

lljkk · 06/08/2021 12:08

I thought it was lovely but a bit sleepy for teens unless they love water sport and just lazing about. Good walk/run over nearby hills to cove(s), mind, & goats.

HPLikecraft · 06/08/2021 12:13

I go to Mallorca at least once a year, often more, and have never once been on a rowdy plane full of boozed up people!
We stay close to Pollensa. The Port/resort area is not so exciting, the bay is nice though, and the old town is lovely, with some good 'real' restaurants and Roman remains. It's also close to the mountains and there are nice places and tucked away beaches to visit nearby.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/08/2021 12:54

Soller and the port were lovely many years ago and very not English. More German.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 06/08/2021 12:54

And the bus from Soller to Pollensa was a nice trip.

Badbadbunny · 06/08/2021 12:57

Re planes, I think it depends on the airline. We've gone a few times with the likes of Thomson, Thomas Cook etc (yes I know they've gone now), but basically more holiday/package holiday type flights and they were fine.

It's usually a different kind of clientelle on the likes of Easyjet and Ryanair - who seem to attract the stag/hen party crowds.
