Help me decide what political party to join

I am retiring, and want to become more politically active

My priorities are the environment and housing

So you might think Green? But are they actually a serious party with workable policies? And I know they have a transwoman in a woman's position. A very big mark against them. But on the other hand, maybe something best challenged from the inside?

Or libdems? Big on housing and on the environment. I am worried by their policy on legalising cannabis, having worked as a carer and known many trafficked children working as slaves in the UK cannabis industry - I think legalising cannabis will make this issue much worse.

Or labour? but are they too chaotic? too anitsemetic? too big and muddled to actually change direction and do something s=useful?

What are the other options?

I share your frustration. Women's rights and housing are two of my top priorities too but no party seems to be trying to do much about them.

Could you do a masters or PhD in solutions to the cannabis problem or in alternatives to the current horrific housing market?

Or be strategic depending on which party in your constituency is most likely to oust the conservatives. IMO the Conservative party is the most likely to cause more poverty in this country. They are working on reducing workers' rights, making it harder to demonstrate and use the FOI act and privatising the NHS.

They have done almost nothing to address the cladding scandal either.

OK, I think I have decided to join Extinction Rebellion (I don't expect that will be a popular decision!)

Thanks for everyone's input

I am looking into local council as well

OP - sorry I've not read the full thread.

Have you considered becoming an independent councillor for your area? We had one here for a few years and they were fantastic!
