My dd has introduced me to these dolls and announced that she wants them for Christmas!
Quick look tells me I’m going to need to remortgage the house to get a few dolls and the play sets.
What do you guys think of them and how do your 5-6 year old kids enjoy them.

Just get her one! maybe rope in any relatives to get her some little changes of outfit?

YouReallyAre · 05/08/2021 15:37

Have a look on FB market place as the sets and dolls come up pretty often. Argos also sells their own version called designer friend which are cheaper.

My 9 year old DD still plays with hers, but be warned they end up taking up a lot of room.

Soubriquet · 05/08/2021 15:40

My dd has one. Phoebe. She got it after she had an operation

For Christmas she got a couple of outfits to dress her up with

2 years later and Phoebe the doll itself is still in great condition. Her hair on the other hand is a mess.

My 7yo got one and is obsessed with it, it goes everywhere with her now. So it's been worth the money for us

Nearlyadoctor · 05/08/2021 15:46

Dd loved hers and the horse - she’s now 14 so they’re packed away in the loft now.
They are based on the American girl dolls which are eye wateringly expensive. I always thought OG dolls and clothing were very reasonably priced and high play value.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 05/08/2021 15:47

The Argos ones are just as good and a lot cheaper

Anoisagusaris · 05/08/2021 15:50

The dolls are actually quite good value, big and sturdy and hard wearing. The sets are pricey but still good quality.

And far better for kids in terms of body image and clothes than Barbies, LOLs, Bratz, etc.

Definitely agree that the Design a Friend dolls from Argos are great.

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 05/08/2021 17:50

Dsd loves them still at 8.

Fyi the designa friend ones outfits in argos for the dolls and often half price for like 7 quid an outfit. Dsd has loads of the argos outfits.

Agree with PP about the Designer Dolls from Argos, my niece had a few and they are lovely.

Littlepaws18 · 05/08/2021 21:56

They are like barbies on steroids! Everything is massive! I would suggest eBay or synths in the sale. I bought a great bundle of clothes on Amazon non branded. But if you buy any sets remember they are huge. I bought the cinema for my dd and it takes up a huge chunk of her room. The horse is really annoying too as it's so big it just won't fit in any drawer and she doesn't play with it all that often. But they are lovely dolls and really well made.

I think designafriends are prettier. OG look a bit vacant to me.

HelplessProcrastinator · 05/08/2021 22:10

My DD has Our Generation and Design a Friend dolls and sets. She has collected them over a few years and now at nearly 11 still loves them. They have been totally worth the money. I'm trying trying to persuade her to pack them off to the loft before secondary in September but she just loves them still.

AgnesNaismith · 05/08/2021 22:11

Urgh, I love them…could spend hours in Smyths in the OG aisle. You can often pick up a good bargain in TK Maxx!!

MedusasBadHairDay · 06/08/2021 10:30

Would the Design a Friend doll clothes fit on the Our Generation dolls?

JustLoveYourselfALittle · 06/08/2021 12:52

Yes they do fit. We buy them for og dolls.
