Watching football?

Hi everyone, hoping you can help a clueless mum out. My oldest son has got really into football (like a lot of 10 year old boys!) and really wants to start watching the premier league matches when it starts.

What is the cheapest way he/ we can do that? Does much get shown on ‘normal’ tv or do we need a subscription?

Thank you!

They are on a combination of Sky sports and BT sport so you’ll want one or both of those depending on what matches he wants to watch: www.radiotimes.com/tv/sport/football/premier-league-tv-schedule-2021-22/

For full matches you'll need Sky Sports or BT Sports. For free Match of The Day on a Sunday morning

Could you take him to see his local team, who may be outside the Premier League?

Suggest Sunday morning Match of the Day to begin with.

PL highlights are shown on Match of the Day on BBC1 every Saturday & Sunday evening. It usually starts about 10:30, and the Saturday show is repeated on Sunday mornings. You can also watch on IPlayer.

If he wants to watch live PL games, you will need to pay for a subscription contract. Sky has the most games, and most of the games featuring the ‘big six’ teams. BT Sport has fewer games, and fewer ‘big games’ but their subscriptions are cheaper. ‘Now TV’ is Sky’s non-contract subscription service which offers 24 hour passes for £10.

You could get a now tv sports pass. They have an offer on for £20 a month for 10 months. Cancel anytime. We have this, alongside BT sport which we got free as part of our broadband package with them.

skippy67 · 05/08/2021 11:53

Forgot to add, the now tv pass shows all the sky sports matches.

Amazon Prime show a limited number of games each season too, and that’s included in a normal Prime TV subscription.

Some clubs have their own TV channels which you can subscribe to, on the one we’ve subscribed to in the past they don’t show matches live but show them after a few hours, and you get classic matches, press conferences, player interviews etc.

Yep some FA cup games are shown on normal telly but for league games you’ll need a subscription
Match of the day is free but quite late

OhGiveUp · 05/08/2021 12:43

I stream it free online. Not legal I know, but there we are.

RusholmeRuffian · 05/08/2021 16:59

Please take him to watch your local team even if they're rubbish. Live football is a million times better than football on tv.

dannydyerismydad · 05/08/2021 17:46

Our local championship club usually has tickets at £5 for kids and £10-£20 for adults. We go once or twice a month. It's a great day out, even though they usually lose.

Thanks for all your help everyone- I hadn’t realised Amazon Prime (which we have) had some matches so that is great news!

Thanks again!
