Lighthearted obviously!

It’s a toss up between the magpies and the seagulls here. Hate them both.

I got woken up recently with the gulls making an almighty racket and looked out to see what was causing it. A heron was sitting on my neighbour’s roof - the gulls were swooping on it and squawking very loudly. It was bothered in the slightest.

Came out of work yesterday to find what looked like the collective bowel movements of an entire flock of gulls had been dumped over my car. Lovely. Sitting in the car wash of an evening is just where I want to be.

Monkeytennis97 · 05/08/2021 12:20

The main reason I couldn't live by the sea. Hate the noise!

HardStaringBearFromDarkestPeru · 05/08/2021 12:20

There used to be a male blackbird that for several years would sit on my neighbour's tv antenna & sing from dawn onwards - sometimes 4.15-4.30am!
I miss his song now he's no longer around, even if it was a bit same-y.
Bizarrely my neighbour never heard him.

OhGiveUp · 05/08/2021 12:50

I hate the noisy thieving buggers, as much as I hate wood pigeons and crows.
All that foot stomping, cooing and cawing drives me mad.
Are they competing in a bloody Riverdance competition up there or what?
And one of them nicked my haddock! The fish stealing noisy bugger.

Gilead · 05/08/2021 13:23

Anyone heard Peacocks/hens? No? Do drop by any morning from about five onwards…

bruffin · 05/08/2021 13:26

my neighbours cockeral, starts at 4 in the morning and non stop all day long!

cariadlet · 05/08/2021 13:31

The worst ever (loudest and longest) early morning wake up I had was from Howler monkeys when we were on holiday a few years ago. Exciting and exotic the first time but they soon lost their appeal when we realised that they would be waking us up at 5 o'clock every bloody morning.

itstoohotinhere · 05/08/2021 15:24

Jackdaws here. Starlings too. Both arrive in massive flock and squabble amongst themselves!

Hemingwaycat · 05/08/2021 15:50

Awful. We stayed at FIL’s on the coast a couple of weeks ago, roasting hot so we had the windows open overnight and all were awoken at dawn by the fuckers. So loud, it definitely put me off ever living there!

LysistrataVickers · 05/08/2021 15:54

@spinningspaniels

It's bloody owls where we live. 4am this morning, I think Mum was teaching her babies to fly ...... piercing shrill sounds that woke the whole bloody house up.

I love owls, I really do but outside my window at that time?!? I feel like a zombie this morning.

Oh sodding owls. I love owls but crap they can be noisy. I remember them keeping me awake when I still lived with my mum. Fortunately we've moved to an area where the owls aren't as anti social.
MaMelon · 05/08/2021 16:35

Our owls are very considerate and only hoot/squawk/scream before midnight. I think the seagulls and magpies chase them away - either that or they've agreed a rota between themselves.

whiteboatriver · 05/08/2021 16:46

Our problem is more with crows! Some of them are huge! But only sometimes issues with seagulls when they move further inland in very stormy weather.

Ellmau · 05/08/2021 19:33

@KatieKryptonite

Wood pigeons, pheasants and a fucking cockerel that I'm sure would make a beautiful roast dinner

Also foxes. Noisy fuckers.

Too tough for a roast, he would need to be coq au vin.
irregularegular · 05/08/2021 19:36

They are, indeed, a nightmare. I hadn't realised how much until now. We just had a lovely week in a cottage in Southwold. The one thing that would put me off returning/recommending was the hideous noise of seagulls practically in our bedroom. Horrendous. They sound lovely and seaside-y normally, but NOT in the morning the flat roof outside.

irregularegular · 05/08/2021 19:38

Who said sparrows? Sparrows could never, ever come close to what I just experienced from seagulls.

idontlikealdi · 05/08/2021 19:48

Crows. The bloody parakeets are almost as loud but they seem to wait for the evening.

NiceGerbil · 05/08/2021 19:50

My gran there were seagulls used to 'shout' down the chimney, very loud!

Seeline · 05/08/2021 20:45

We're 30 miles from the sea. I've been awake at about 4am several mornings recently (menopausal!) and the noise the seagulls make is unbelievable.

We also have jackdaws, wood pigeons and parakeets. It's a wonder I get any sleep at all!

Cheermonger · 05/08/2021 20:49

We live in an idyllic location, looking out to sea. Well it would be idyllic if it wasn’t for the shrieking pterodactyls on my garage roof at 5 am. God I hate gulls.

FVFrog · 05/08/2021 20:51

I have hens, my new rescue hen is louder than a bloody cockerel, I’ve never heard anything like it! She can get out into small enclosed run herself but that’s not good enough for madam, she wants access to the whole garden. She has me well trained, she literally stands there sqwaking in the direction of the house until I let her out (in my pjs at 6 in the morning….Hmm

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 05/08/2021 20:52

@StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes

Sparrows here, they are in nest boxes out the front but sit in the bushes shouting good morning to each other from about 5 am
Same here. Noisy fucking gobshites. Arguing with each other from 4am - 11pm.
Giotto479 · 05/08/2021 20:52

Jackdaws around my way. Fierce racket!

AssistancePlz · 05/08/2021 21:04

I normally don’t have issues with them until recently when I went away for an overnight stay near a beach and oh my god I wanted to choke them. Didn’t sleep a wink that whole night, felt like they were inside my hotel room they were that loud!!!
