Hi, debating whether to do a trip with kids to London, but don't really fancy trawling around on tubes all day. Is there much to do near Marylebone, or 1 tube away from? Thanks!

DC are 8 and 6, funds are limited, so picnic at Regent's Park etc

You could easily walk to madam Tussauds, which is right next to Regents Park for a nice picnic and wander, and if you fancy walking up through the park, at the top is the zoo!

The farthest point there is the zoo, and that is just a half hour walk back to Marylebone so should be doable??

The Wallace Collection in Manchester Square is very interesting. They have a large collection of armour and weapons as well as some nice paintings.

London Zoo, Regent's Park.

The Zoo is stupidly expensive though. If you fancy the Zoo I’d look at getting reduced tickets in some way. At one point you could do it by using railcards.

There is a playground in Regents Park. All a bit weather dependent though.

Bus from Marylebone goes past Oxford Circus if you fancy a wander down Regents St to look in Hamleys.

There’s also a playground in Paddington Square gardens, though might be a bit small for your 8 year old. The Wellcome Collection is free entry, if your kids are into science at all. British Library is also not too far and they sometimes have kids events.
You are not far from Oxford Street if you wanted to go over that way too.

It’s not too far a walk from Hyde Park, you could take them to the Diana memorial playground (my dc love it there) and fountains with a picnic?

And then on the other side of the park is the NHM and science museum too

I just checked, and Madame Tussaud would be £80 for 1 adult and 2 kids!!! The zoo is expensive, but if you have tesco vouchers, it might be doable.

I'd personally take a picnic into Regents park. Lots of area to walk around- the rose garden, lake etc.

This link might give you some ideas. Note though, that some require a change of tubes.

If you don't mind going on a bus, have a look at some of the bus routes from there. There are one or two that go down to the river past the sites. You could take DC to the playground on the south bank or do a trip on the river bus.

Or the area behind Paddington where the Regent canal starts is nice & it has a fountain DC can play in if it's warm. The British Library has a Paddington Bear exhibition on that's family friendly, on until Oct but tickets need to booked in advance

Does the 453 go from Marylebone to Oxford Circus and then through Westminster?

Camdenish · 05/08/2021 20:31

It does. That must be the bus route Haunted meant. There are always loads of them. From Marylebone you go past the BBC then Ixfird Circus, past Hamleys, through to Horse Guards parade and all the other Parliament stuff. I’d stop there as if you go any further you’d end up South Of The River but I’ve heard tell some people do it.
