Faulty nappies

yourestandingonmyneck · 04/08/2021 17:26

I've got a packet of pull ups that are split down one side. Must have been a fault in the factory.

I thought I could put them on and then kind of stick it down somehow like a nappy, but it doesn't work, it just springs apart.

They have been lying in my DD's room for months. Anybody got any idea what I could do with them? The thought of them just going to landfill depresses me.

I had thought I could use them as packing material if I was posting something delicate, but it's been about 6 months now and I haven't posted anything Grin

If anybody has any ideas, please let me know!

Save them for potty training, you could use them over pants in the car in case of accidents. As she won’t be moving while in the car seat and she hopefully won’t be weeing in them anyway, not completely doing up might not be an issue?

yourestandingonmyneck · 04/08/2021 18:13

@modgepodge that is an option, thank you.

I'm fed up looking at them so might just move them straight to the car now. Can leave them in the boot until needed.

Thanks Smile

I'd just chuck them! You could have taken them back months ago and got an exchange 🙈

But the OP wants to avoid them going to landfill, that’s what it says in her original post. I doubt she’s bothered by a couple of pounds wasted. If she’d returned them, they definitely would have ended up in landfill.

Gaffer tape 👍

Yeah, exactly what @modgepodge said. I knew if I took them back they'd go straight in the bin. Also I didn't have the receipt and couldn't be bothered with the faff.

Tried it. They just spring right open. Unless I gaffer tape her right up like a mummy Grin

They will go to land-fill whether they're used or not, you're over thinking this!

Just Chuck them Confused

I know they will. It just seems so wasteful.

If I can't come think of anything else I will do what pp suggested and keep them in car for car journeys when potty training.

If you soak them in water you can use them to line hanging baskets or pots in place of water retention crystals.

bookh · 04/08/2021 20:51

A friend's tip to me was to have one in pocket when going to park. You know those days where it rained overnight and there is an annoying puddle at the bottom of the slide or on one swing, and you thought it was an ok day and forgot waterproofs? A nappy. Dry the park, save the bums.
I do live in Scotland so this may be a more common occurrence here than elsewhere!

HalloHello · 04/08/2021 20:55

They will always end up in landfill no matter what! Madness to keep a pack of faulty nappies for all manner of random reasons. Even if you use one to dry a slide, or for potty training accidents or for lining flipping hanging baskets 😅🤣 they'll still end up in landfill! I hate clutter and they would be right in the bin without a 2nd thought.

Buy a cloth nappy wrap or ask your local nappy library if they have any failed wraps. You don’t need the waterproof so it doesn’t matter that they have failed!

My son's disability pads sometimes fail on the tags; I use micropore tape to hold them closed. (Yes, it's a long length but not quite wrapped all the way round him!)

Didn't know that; thank you! 👍🏻

Ah, you mean use it inside a nappy wrap to hold it in place?

I think I have one somewhere, will give that a go!
