DS has just passed his driving test.

Do we need his physical new license before we can insure him on our car?

No. I added DD to ours when she passed a couple of weeks ago on the day she passed. Full licence only took about 5 days to come as well anyway.

And congrats to your DS!

Keep in mind that now he's a newly-qualified drive this insurance will be high.

Higher than when he was learning (if you costed it then) as he would have been expected to have a properly qualified driver with him at all times. Now he doesn't.

But congratulations to him on passing.

Thanks everyone.

He's my second. I recall how our insurance went up a thousand quid for our first when he passed....

What proof do they need of passing? Do the insurance company demand any?

No, no proof needed.

Admiral with a black box came out as cheapest for us - with DD as policyholder and DH & I as named drivers.

PheasantsNest · 05/08/2021 14:04

No you can insure them the day they pass. My DD's licence came within 4 days.

Thanks. The license arrived quickly, but we got him insured today.

Son, being 20 , brought that down 90% from being 17! Eldest cost us £1000 to insure once he'd passed at 17; second, at 20, added £130 to our insurance!!
