Boring automatic car/insurance/car seat questions for new adult driver

I’ve just booked a block of automatic driving lessons for myself, and I like to plan ahead so I have questions about cars.

No family to ask about this.

I’m 34

3DC 13/10/5

I’m short, so are my DC so don’t need lots of leg room

5YO is tall - 114cm - currently used a high back booster in other peoples cars but wondering if there’s a more secure option for her?

Has to be automatic because I have ADHD and can’t do manual at all.

As low an insurance group as possible.

As reliable as possible.

Will also need AA/RAC whatever cover.

Help.

Budget? Buying new or second hand?
If you're buying breakdown cover have a look on TopCashback, there's often some good news for new customer. Some cars come with manufacturers breakdown cover for the first year although it's often only the basic level of cover.

With 3 kids I would look in the "mid size" range e.g. VW golf, Vauxhall Astra, Mazda 3, Ford Focus, Hyundai i30 etc.
All Hybrid self charging cars are automatic so they might be an option. When I did a bit of research they were marginally more expensive to insure than the equivalent petrol model but nothing too significant.

I'm short and I have an automatic Nissan Juke. They are higher than most cars which is good when you are short. You can get adult booster cushions though or just use a regular cushion. I did that thirty years ago when I was learning to drive.

I do agree with Emma that you could look at electric too. My dh has an electric car and it is so easy to drive.

I have an automatic Ford Focus, which is a decent car. Be prepared to pay for new door seals every other year or so, though, at a cost of nearly £100 a door! Also, steer well clear of TrustFord - they are not to be trusted!

Cheapness-wise, I also have an automatic Peugeot 107. The tax is only £20 a year, and it is extremely cheap to run.
