will I have been caught speeding?

Is it just an urban myth that there is a 10 percent lee-way? I'm really cross with myself as the cruise control was on 44 on a dual where there is a temporary 40 and there was a squad car and two officers doing the pointing and writing.
What happens when you are caught speeding?

Maybe this is just a difference between Canada and the UK but similar has happened to me both places.

DH are long-term clean record drivers. We tend to always stick to speed limits. But this means we are frequently tailgated, almost pushed off the road by passing speeding vehicles, and even sworn at.

Two weeks ago we had a long (6 hour) drive on mountain highways. Huge semi-trailer trucks were passing us like we were standing still. We would then pass them on an uphill grade. It was a bit scary to be honest.

A good part of the trip coming in and out of Vancouver has HOV lanes which are high occupancy, two or more in the car. We used them and drove at the speed limit. We were constantly being illegally passed on the right, and rude gestures made.

I am less concerned about someone going 4 mph over than the lunatics putting everyone in danger.

So because I have an issue with people speeding, that makes me a knob...seriously?
No it’s your attitude that makes you a knob 🤷🏻‍♀️

Your husband was lucky
Normally if you don’t reply to the NIP you get a court summons where if you don’t know what your doing can end up with 6 points on your licence because you failed to respond and a big fine .
It’s a legal requirement to respond and down to you to explain why you didn’t respond .
The courts will rarely accept that you didn’t get the letter unless you can prove that you have had problems with your mail and it’s virtually impossible to prove that you didn’t get a letter .
It why every single year I make a complaint to Royal Mail about not receiving mail and keep a copy of my complaint 😂 just in case[/quote]
He did respond though. Letter arrived in June telling him he'd been caught my a van back in April. He responded in June because that's when the police sent it. Filled it all in, and was offered a speed awareness course.

We don't have a problem with Royal Mail or any delivery service (whispers even Hermes are great). The letter was dated June. It's wasn't a case of it going missing or him just ignoring it.

That sounds scary but I understand. That is what has happened on that bit of road before when I’ve stuck to 40. I always put the cruise control on on motorways and duals with varying limits or average speed cameras and I’m overtaken loads. I think that’s why I’m cross with myself for yesterday.

DH got caught speeding last year - 33 in a 30 and he got a fine and a speed awareness course.

The 10% + 2mph thing is discretionary.

I haven't been aggressive, I've disagreed with people and I'm not the one name calling.

I'm just shocked at the number of people defending speeding, hopefully no-one on this thread hits anyone whilst speeding or has a friend or family member hit by a speeding car...maybe the attitudes wouldn't be quite as laissez faire

@PostMenWithACat

I hear what you say *@Wiltshire90* but the bit I still don't understand is why they didn't put their foot down and overtake me at 74/75mph rather than staying on my tail at the prescribed distance. I still think they got a bit of a kick out of it.
Why would they break the law though? As Wilt said, they have to follow somebody and you just happened to be going in the same direction. Why would they get a kick out of following a car for no reason? They're so busy, they don't waste time tailing people for no reason.

DH is a copper and says people always change their driving when they see a police car behind them. Brake hard even if they're doing the right speed, hands in the 10-2, constant slightly anxious mirror checks etc. They might be keeping a weather eye on general road behaviours, but they're not watching you closely enough to judge your lip syncing skills though so don't worry.
