Just looking for any tips more experienced camper vanners can offer. We've booked a camper van for 8 nights in early September. DP, DD (age almost 4) and me. Plan is to wild camp a couple of nights and spend the rest on a couple of NT campsites.

The wild camping rules in Scotland are often misinterpreted and abused and anyway do not apply to motorised vehicles.

Please travel responsibly and stay on proper campsites. Look at joining Britstops too.

Im in Scotland in a tourist area. We are rammed with motorhomes.
There are no quiet places anymore.
I've had people park across our farm track and leave their shit behind our byres.
As a previous poster said, wild camping is only for tents off the beaten tracks.
Try Girvan Harbour. It's £5 for the night. Also there's a new section on Ayr front that allows overnights for £5.

My Porta loo in van lasts a good week an a bit before it needs emptied. If you got sites booked empty whilst there. I wild camp all the time, however I have done so for years before it became a thing. However lots of landowners are now barracading sites which folk could stop on, mainly because people are leaving their rubbish behind. There is still places to stop though.

@Biscusting

Residents have be inundated with novice camper drivers leaving garbage and chemical toilet waste. Be mindful you may not be made to feel welcome even with your best intentions.
We’ll wouldn’t you? People parking their campervans on your grandparents graves and dumping their shit (as in actual human waste) on your driveway or where your kids play.

To OP, bear in mind it very different driving in a single track road to you average daily commute, if you notice a queue of traffic behind you, pull into a passing place to allow it to pass. Observe common sense and basic manners. On single track roads it’s the rule to allow right of way to traffic travelling up hill, but my experience in recent years is that the majority of visitors are either unaware of this or simply do not care.

The worst thing about this time of year is the roads fill up with people who’s day to day driving experience is the daily commute or taking the family hatchback 4 junctions on the ring road to get to the big Tesco who’ve suddenly found themselves behind the wheel of a hired campervan the size of a small lorry on unfamiliar roads too narrow to accommodate them
