What age could your child do these kind of puzzles?

DD is 19.5m.

She can have about 6 of the 2piece puzzles all mixed up, sort and put together independently.

Naturally she's a child genius 🤣

But really, is it above normal? Or am I being PFB???

Sorry. Perfectly normal.

GiantToadstool · 03/08/2021 15:53

I think thats the age they're for isn't it?

Children learn what they do. So a child with access to puzzles will get better at puzzles.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 03/08/2021 15:53

Definitely normal! Grin

You mean an almost 2 year old can match a black front to a black bottom?!! Wow! Genius

Sorry OP, it’s perfectly normal.

BertieBotts · 03/08/2021 15:55

DS2 couldn't do that until he was over 2. DS1 probably could have done it earlier, he was really good/interested in puzzles. I notice that DS2 (nearly 3 now) doesn't really look at the picture when he does puzzles, he looks at the shape. Whereas DS1 would try to match the picture very early on and that was probably why he found them easier.

Starjammer · 03/08/2021 15:56

Yes, think that's totally standard for that age group! DD was doing the same, along with her little antenatal group pals, and she's certainly not some child puzzle prodigy! They had them at nursery for the under 2s.

BikeRunSki · 03/08/2021 15:56

Perfectly normal.

When the HV did DD’s 2 year check, she gave her a 4 piece jigsaw to do, which dd did in a couple of Sevices, then went are hit her 36 piece jigsaw for the HV, which took her a few minutes. Naturally, she is a child genius.

Starjammer · 03/08/2021 16:03

I've actually just gone and looked back at my Amazon orders to see when I bought her a bunch of two-piece puzzles as she had started taking a real interest in doing the one we had, and she was 18.5 months, so almost the same age.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 03/08/2021 16:06

We were given some for his 2nd birthday. He didn't pay much attention to them till about 28 months.

modgepodge · 03/08/2021 16:08

Yes, normal I think. Though it will vary between children and also how much exposure they have. My nephew is 2 months younger than my daughter and my sister has been surprised more than once by how good my daughter is at puzzles compared to him. But she loves puzzles and I have got quite a few and do them with her regularly, so she’s got quite good 🤷‍♀️ I also think the childminder might do them quite a lot! On the flip side, my daughter is useless on her balance bike and my nephew rides his very confidently. Just different interests I guess!

Oh the balance bike, DD is 2.5 and just kind of walks with hers under her at the moment! One of her pals the same age is off into the horizon at speed on his, and DD is just waddling around with it going slower than walking pace Grin
Apeirogon · 03/08/2021 16:11

I think that's good for her age.

cariadlet · 03/08/2021 16:23

Pretty normal. I started dd with 2 piece puzzles at that sort of age.

LuxOlente · 03/08/2021 16:27

Thought we'd at least be looking at a 16 piece here :p I mean, kids are awesome, they're lovely, just revel in the things they do.

Maggiesfarm · 03/08/2021 16:30

Normal, Alice. Jolly good though.

modgepodge · 03/08/2021 18:24

@Starjammer mine is barely doing that 😂 she walks with it under her for about a metre before announcing ‘all done’. It takes much longer to ge the bike out the shed and put the helmet on than is ever spent ‘on’ it…

ElizaDoolots · 03/08/2021 18:43

My just turned two year old has only started doing these in the last couple of months, so I’m impressed OP.
My DD also is too impatient to put the pieces together so she matches them and hands them to me and orders me to fit them together.

LabiaMinoraPissusFlapus · 03/08/2021 18:54

One of my children was completing 24 piece puzzles by herself at 11 months of age. She is severely dyslexic and is still a whizz at visual puzzles, it's just how her mind works! My others were doing the normal ones for that age! Yes that is normal but always great to admire our children for whatever they achieve.
