What can I do?

We're about 2 hours from home (still in UK). I guess I'll need some antibiotics, anyone know what I can do?

Call the closest GP surgery and explain, they can register you as a temporary patient

pinkcattydude · 02/08/2021 22:10

Walk-in centre can give them out if you can get to one tomorrow. I think chemist can help too, but I had to use the walk-in Center when I was in a similar situation

I got antibiotics from the pharmacist for a UTI a few weeks ago.

Pharmacies in Scotland can prescribe Trimethoprim, if you're north of the border. Not sure about elsewhere in the UK. My local (very small) branch of Boots does it. There are some exceptions where they might need to refer you to a GP, but worth a try.

Mrsmch123 · 02/08/2021 22:12

Any chemist can give you them if your in Scotland.

DeathMetalMum · 02/08/2021 22:12

Walk in centre. Though your GP may be able to help if you are in England as they may be willing to send a prescription electronically to a chemist local to you.

sherrystrull · 02/08/2021 22:13

Go to boots. They can give u the test then prescribe antibiotics. My local one did during lockdown 2.

pinkflask · 02/08/2021 22:13

You can get cystitis sachets from supermarkets/chemists that you mix with water and drink, they help.

AffronttoBS · 02/08/2021 22:13

Try mixing a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda into water for a solution to drink.

idontlikealdi · 02/08/2021 22:14

Walk in centre or urgent care spending where you are

FullMoonInsomnia · 02/08/2021 22:15

Drink lots and lots of water. Also the sachets from Boots. You may not need antibiotics. Biocarb works well too as mentioned above.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 02/08/2021 22:16

Chemist, your own GP, 111 in that order.

Itwasquitegood · 02/08/2021 22:17

When I had just moved house and wasn't registered with a GP I called 111 for an issue my daughter had and they were able to get a Dr to call me and arrange for a prescription to pick up at a local pharmacy? Not sure if possible in your circumstances but worth a try?

DuckyMcDuck · 02/08/2021 22:18

That's great thanks all, I'll see if I can see someone tomorrow.
Hopefully I don't need antib's - I'm not in any pain atm but it just doesn't feel 'right' and keep needing to wee every half hour or so.

You can order antibiotics online at Superdrug and collect them the next day.

Tinkerbellfluffyboots79 · 02/08/2021 22:22

I feel for you, had the same last week 8 hours from bome. Was in absolute agony am on 10 days of antibiotics as urine was red. Def get seen early as you can. I went to a walk in centre. Then a&e as they thought I had kidney stones.
Drink plenty and hope you are feeling better soon

Kittii · 02/08/2021 22:23

While you're waiting drink loads of water to try to flush out the bacteria. No sugar.

Mandalayblonde · 02/08/2021 22:27

In experience, as a frequent sufferer and regular traveller...

I personally never found the water / sachets approach worked and just resulted in a night of attempting to piss broken glass agony. I advise stopping drinking, taking the strongest painkillers you have on you and getting to nearest walk in / chemist / GP first thing in the morning for ABs. And ideally get a repeat prescription so you can keep ABs with you to take for future episodes. Depends how badly you suffer (and how often and widely you travel), but this is the sadly frequently tried and test approach which works for me.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 02/08/2021 22:46

You can order online at various chemists to pick up antibiotics the next day. I think a PP said Superdrug, and I've used Lloyd's myself on holiday once. Made me feel better knowing that it was sorted for the next day if it didn't improve in the meantime. Sometimes it does just clear up drinking plenty (but not too much to over irritate your bladder) and the sachets or bicarb can help with the symptoms. I'd second taking a painkiller as well. I suffered them for ages before it occurred to me that that might help!

FoodieToo · 02/08/2021 23:19

Have you no online doctor service in the UK ?Loads of them here in Ireland . Very handy !

TiddyTidTwo · 02/08/2021 23:35

Online pharmacy deliver to your address next day x

DameSlapsSlap · 03/08/2021 00:16

In the meantime drink drink drink (water Grin).

GrimDamnFanjo · 03/08/2021 00:38

I phoned my gp who were able to fax a script to my nearest pharmacy as they had treated me the previous month.

DuckyMcDuck · 04/08/2021 15:35

Just to update, spoke to my GP receptionist yesterday and have just had a telephone consultation with a Doctor. They are going to send a prescription to a chemist here.

Thanks for all the replies.
