Earwax vacuum

I think my ears are bunged so I've just made an appointment to have them vacuumed.

What's it feel like? Can you feel it pulling on all the little hairs? Is it noisy? And does it make you feel weird - will I be OK to drive home?

How much does it cost?
It costs £90 where I am from ( The home counties)

My GP friend had a quick look and said just put Otex drops in them....no need to syringe.

But sorry going back to your question... it doesnt hurt and actually feels quite nice!

Doctors rarely syringe anymore and suction is a safer method, I believe.
The drops aren’t enough if your ears are really blocked although it’s recommended that you use them, leading up to an appointment.
I felt much better afterwards and you should be fine to drive. No pulling on hairs etc.
The suction is quick, a little uncomfortable if there’s a lot of wax but the difference in hearing is amazing.
Paid £70 for both in Central London.

I am having mine done on wednesday. It is £40 for one ear.

It also seems to be a very popular procedure and some clinics were booked weeks in advance - apparently earphones can impact wax further into ears and I know I wear mine far too much. Would definitely agree with the feeling of relief/sudden lack of blockage.

It's definitely an odd sensation but there is also a feeling of instant relief when your ears are unclogged. Mine had to be done twice a year for years and I used to count down the days to the appointment. You can feel a little dizzy afterwards but I was always fine after a few minutes.

Its brilliant. £50 per ear so not cheap but he said it will only need doing every 2 years or so. It is a slurpy sucking sound, not awful at all unless you are very sensitive. They also let you see inside your ear with a camera. Much relief and way better than anything the GP could offer me. Took about 30 minutes for consultation and both ears hoovered. You need to olive oil your ears before hand (I think it was at least 2 days before).

I had mine done once, it’s weird, painful but not too painful, more irritating, but so nice afterwards.

It’s different to syringing.

Utter bliss.
I wear earplugs at night which compounds the issue —DH snores like an angry pig— so used to have mine flushed regularly. Nurse was a bit of a sporner and we’d marvel at what came out 😂

I bought a syringe on Amazon last year and flush them myself now. It’s basically a syringe with a nozzle on the end and you fire warm water into the ear. Not as nice as the nurses irrigator thing but it does work.

My 15 year old son loves getting his done but he says his hearing is super good after and everything sounds weird.
It’s great entertainment watching on the screen!!!

Dogoodfeelgood · 02/08/2021 23:45

It’s such a satisfying feeling, I really really enjoyed it, and you feel instantly better and clearer hearing afterwards. I’m practically salivating thinking about it 😂

I love that your nurse was a sporner - I mean you would have to be!

DD had this done earlier this year after a long while of gradually poorer hearing - yuk to what came out! She said it was so much better. Hers was caused we think by earphones which she wore all the time. On the nurse's advice I bought her some big headphones which should stop it being needed again for a while.

It was £30 or 40 per ear but well worth the money.

Oh I'm looking forward to this!

I hope I can watch Grin
