London ideas for 8yr old

We’re off to London for a couple of days in August and we’ve got a couple of things planned in already. We’ve stayed in London quite a few times before so have done all the main tourist hits.

Does anyone have suggestions for restaurants/good places to visit with an 8yr old DD? Anything that has been a huge hit with your DCs?

My 8yo DD loved the Museum of London (particularly the fire of London and fatburg exhibitions). She also really enjoys the theatre so in non-Covid times we go a few times a year - favourites have been School of Rock (which has a really good ticket lottery) and Matilda.

London Transport Museum in Covent Garden if you've not been before. It's not free though.

Do have a browse in the topic

What sort of things do you like? Going to the parks, Harrods, gawping at Tellytubbie Hill (the Marble Arch Mound) and Kensington Gardens?

Or are you after lesser known museums - the Postal Museum is very good and you could go to Corams Fields and the British Museum as well

We went round Harrods looking at the enormous tv's!

Some places do childrens afternoon tea Thats nice as it's all fancy and something different.

Disney have a pop up in Covent Garden with costumes and props in (free but need to book)

Museum of childhood in Bethnal Green.

Diana Fountain and the new installation - Counterpoint in Kensington Gardens / Hyde Park, can get out a pedallo in the Serpentine there too. Street Performers in Covent Garden. The Southbank - fountains and little fairground/ London Eye and Aquarium, watch the skateboarders . Sky Garden great views - free but you have to book a slot.

We did the Transport a few years ago and it was fab. Not done the Diana fountain so that’s a good shout. We’re quite easy- enjoy the outdoors but we’re only in London for a couple of days so keen to keep central.
We might come down again in October so I’m after lots of ideas.

I am contemplating taking DD to a show as I think she’d enjoy that and I was hoping it might be a little quieter due to Covid.

Restaurant or food suggestions welcome too thanks!

Camden Lock Market for lunch and wander along the canal?

Bodeans is great for kids, or try one of the places in Kingly Court. The small pizza chains are fab too - Pizza Pilgrims, Pizza East, Homeslice, Franco Manca. For something a bit fancier Brasserie Zedel is always really fun.

We went to the Diana fountain about 4 weeks ago and it was shut - worth checking if definitely open. Adding another vote for postal museum, or general potter round kings cross is great - bathe in foundation, find quirky little green areas, nature reserve and canal museum.

If you want to do a show it's kids week throughout august. You might get a deal although it's sometimes worth checking other outlets as well.
