Air fryer?

Do you have one?

Can you help me?

I have no idea what to cook in an air fryer, but more importantly - I don't know how to cook things in it. People have said 'oh I make every thing in mine' which is t particularly helpful for a new user.

What are your best cooked air fryer items and how do you cook them?

We have a few bits we do that we love!

Cut a wrap into triangles and spray with oil. Air fry for ten mins or maybe less. Proper tortilla chips!

Or our favourite at the moment is air fried chick peas. Drain and dry a can of chick peas and season well. Air fry for ten mins or so, maybe a bit longer and you have those delicious bar snacks that warm up on the counter.

The other one that I do is get little cauliflower florets and cover them in a little oil and peri peri salt. Air fry. Delicious!

Looking forward to seeing what gems other people come up with!

Everything and anything. There is no mystery to it, its basically a small oven so anything that you can oven you can air fry. If you can imagine it, you can do it.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 02/08/2021 14:31

It’s basically a table top oven, so anything you’d do in the oven but in our case a lot quicker because our oven is ancient and crap

I just use it for chicken nuggets and waffles.

Or salmon fillets.

If it fits then it goes in the air fryer in this house. Sausages, burgers, crumpets, halloumi, bacon, roast chicken/beef/pork/lamb, stuffing balls, roast veg... The oven only goes on if what I want to cook won't fit or is something like cake or quiche which don't work in the air fryer. Everything cooks really quickly and gets browned nice and evenly.

See, I have learned something already - I didn't even know it was just like an oven Blush

If I wanted to make over chips would I have to spread them thinly as I would on an over tray or can you pile them on top of each other and shake them part way through?

I have a tefal spheri cook that has the fry bit as well. Best thing I ever bought.Frozen chips come out amazing. Chuck a load in and give the a toss. They come out so crispy and taste a lot better than chucking them in the oven.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 02/08/2021 16:12

Shake regularly to cook chips evenly.

Cooks faster, about 75% of the time in regular oven.

I do my roast chicken in mine now, 55/60 minutes it's done.

Pizza , chicken , sausages , fish fingers , onion rings , garlic bread , toasted cheese , hash browns , burgers . Is so quick because my real oven is rubbish .

Just pile them in and shake every few minutes, they be perfect.

I've just done a large roast chicken in mine. Ealier we had part baked rolls in 3 minutes. Airfryer is the dogs bollocks.

I have one and love it. I have two in fact - the Instant pot air crisp (it’s also a pressure cooker but has 8 other uses) and a ninja foodie (also a multi purpose gadget). Awesome for cooking eggs, jacket pots, breaded items, baking cheese, chips, veg - even fruit!

I love them however, the only thing I don’t like about using them for the air fryer settings are that they are round and I think square/rectangle is a better fit.

canigooutyet · 02/08/2021 20:12

Jacket potatoes are amazing in them as well and can do a load in around 45 minutes max depending if I remember to heat it up first.

I was looking at getting the Ninja until I saw the tefal at more than half the price. It also makes amazing yogurt!

canigooutyet · 02/08/2021 20:14

Oh and if you already have a slow cooker you can buy a lid that converts them to air fryers if you don't want to have more appliances.

BertieBotts · 02/08/2021 20:21

We mainly use it for frozen convenience food that you'd normally cook in an oven. It makes things much crispier and nicer and it costs much less to run (apparently).

I find things don't need to be strictly in a single layer, but if you put too much in then it will stay soggy and not crisp up.
