Best place to stop for a run around between Doncaster and Peterbrough?

Our half way mark of the journey will fall at some point between these two points (driving all the way down to Royal Tunbridge Wells).

Need somewhere the kids can have a good stretch of their legs - playpark loos and maybe a coffee. Dont mind service stations but we just use them for quick loo breaks as they dont have anywhere for the kids to race around.

Any suggestions from locals across this (admittedly large) region?

Clumber Park

I’d go to Ferry Meadows which is part of Nene Park in Peterborough. You will have to pay to park but it’s only a few quid, there’s loos and a cafe too

Yes to Clumber Park, or a little further down the A1 Belton House is great.

Just off A1 just to the north of Grantham

Looks close to fully open and says you don't need to book.

Nice cafe and loos (as you wouid expect wth NT) and also a big woodland adventure playground

We dont have NT Membership, unfortunately. I suppose we could get it just to use for the stop off. Belton looks Brill, but that's an expensive place just for a stop off.

You don't need national trust membership to visit, it's not worth doing for one short stop off.

BikeRunSki · 02/08/2021 14:13

Clumber park is only about 30 mins out of Donny.

IP, are you sure you need to stop. Donny to Peterborough is less than 2 hours straight down the A1.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 02/08/2021 14:23

Sorry - the stretch between the two spots will be the middle of our journey. So we have a long drive and I dont want the halfway stop to be any earlier than Doncaster, but dont think we could go through to Peterbrough without a stop.

Our whole drive is 6h no stops

Newark upon Trent is about half way. Presumably you are going down the A1?

BikeRunSki · 02/08/2021 14:27

Ah!! Seen your update. You’ve got Sherwood Pines and Sherwood Forest near Clumber too, no membership required.

Dsis lives near Stamford; Burleigh House has lovely grounds.

Theres a PYO farm and maize maze near Gamston Airport, a couple of minutes of the A1.

I'd vote Ferry Meadows in Peterborough too. Used to go there a lot when we lived in Spalding.

Wellymudshapes · 03/08/2021 07:17

Rothervalley country park is just off the M1.

Yes but equally you wouldn’t pay the day prices to go to Belton House just for a short run-around.

If OP is likely to use NT membership through the rest of the year it might feel more worthwhile - about half the reason we are NT members is so we can do NT pit-stops on holidays without having to justify the cost of entry by spending the whole day there.
