So, a sort of AIBU, but really trivial.

I got a tattoo when I was forty not that long ago. It’s representative of my kids and sort of a reminder that whilst my partner left me for his affair partner when my youngest was very young, we’re all happy.

I really like the artist Keith Haring so it’s that sort of style.

Someone said to me today that it’s really tacky to have a “cartoon tattoo” sort of a “what were you thinking?!”

I still like it!

Also they’re all so cheerful and happy as brothers (despite their huge age gaps and family rubbish) so I thought it was nice.

I have no idea who Keith Haring is but I think its fun. V rude to comment on someone's choice i think

TragicKingdom · 01/08/2021 21:20

I absolutely love Keith Haring and think that person is really ignorant to refernto his art as a tacky cartoon.

Fuck em and their irrelevant opinions. I don't know when people decided that they have to say every thought in their head whether it's helpful, kind or relevant.

It's not to my taste but your body, your choice and sod what others think.

CathyTre · 01/08/2021 21:25

Honesty, I do get the whole tattoos are tacky thing - I got to forty and never had any! I just do really like it and I guess because it’s fairly discreet (on my foot) I didn’t really ever have a comment before. I still really like it though!

When I’m having a tough time, I look at it occasionally and remind myself that I’m doing battle with my ex because of those very lovely cheerful kids. If that makes sense?

Antinerak · 01/08/2021 21:36

I love Keith Haring, and your tattoo! People don't have to like it or 'get' it, but if they're being that unkind to your face they can sod off.
When people tell me they dislike or hate mine I wonder why they think I care.

CathyTre · 01/08/2021 21:41

I won’t mention the one I had when I remarried 😂 again very discreet - on my wrist, can hide totally if I need to - I feel a bit vindicated that it’s ok to have tattoos for personal reasons. Did I mention I like the work of Keith haring?

So, a sort of AIBU, but really trivial.

I absolutely love Keith Haring and have a similar print by him in our house representing our family. So although I'm not a massive tattoo fan in general, I like this one because it's meaningful to you. (And even if I didn't like someone's tattoo I'd never ever be so rude as to say so!)

CathyTre · 01/08/2021 21:43

Going to be honest. The second one (the wrist one) was a different tattooist and not as good in my view.

OP, it's certainly tacky for someone to make an adverse comment about someone else's tattoos, no matter what they may think so all that peson has done is shown themselves up. There is no objective test for the tastefulness or otherwise of tattoos or indeed most things in life. Almost all styles and designs of tattoos can be criticised for one reason or another if someone wants to be negative. I hope it gives you joy every time you look at it.

CathyTre · 01/08/2021 21:51

Thank you! The foot one does give me joy. It reminds me daily why I’ve carried on xx

OP posts:
Zilla1 · 01/08/2021 21:53

And I'm sure your three are glad you carried on and are proud of you.

Good luck.

CathyTre · 01/08/2021 21:55

Thank you 😊

I like the image. Im not really a fan of tattoos myself, but i quite like yours, and like that it is meaningful to you.

CathyTre · 01/08/2021 22:06

Honestly also - I’ve had three C sections - tattoos hurt! 😂

BadgeronaMoped · 01/08/2021 22:17

People can be so rude. It's sweet, and I like the meaning behind it, I love hearing about people's tattoos Smile

CathyTre · 01/08/2021 22:21

Thank you! I had such a hard time with the kids and the separation from their dad. The tattoo really does mean a lot to me however silly that sounds. 🙂

OP posts:
buddy79 · 01/08/2021 22:27

I love it. Love the meaning too. I’m 41 and been considering getting a first tattoo myself, so you’re already braver than me (!), I think that by 40 one can do what one fucking wants with one’s body, no?

Dogoodfeelgood · 01/08/2021 22:34

I don’t like tattoos in general but think this is a great one!

CathyTre · 01/08/2021 22:40

It honestly does hurt quite a bit in my experience! But worth it if you really want a permanent picture! I honestly like mine very much but it does hurt and my wrist one isn't as good as the first one I had and I regret that one a bit.

goddessofmischief · 01/08/2021 22:59

I have tattoos on my ankles I forget are there - got them at the age of 21 and still love them. I have my whole back tattooed and still do a shock reaction if I turn getting into the shower and see it in the mirror as I forget that's there too. Plus many others. I love them all. It's your skin, honestly why bother overthinking about someone else's opinion on how your foot looks? Love the skin you're in, you chose to decorate it. Enjoy it. Regret nothing you yourself are happy with.

CathyTre · 01/08/2021 23:10

Thank you for all messages - not sure how to tag, but I did read them all! Thank you all.
