What are you treating the cat with?
Ideally you should get a treatment from the vet as most OTC ones are rubbish

unicornsarereal72 · 01/08/2021 20:57

I would just bite the bullet and get the house treated. I paid £££ on bombs and sprays to no avail. Took 2 treatments. And take the cat to the vets for treatment.

Tinkerbellfluffyboots79 · 01/08/2021 20:58

Indorex is what I had once for the house. You need to spray all soft furnishings especially carpets. And a prescribed vet flea treatment mine had liquid to back of neck frontline I think but you can speak to your vet

Indorex is the best thing to treat the house with. Get if off amazon. Wash everything that can be washed on a hot wash, hoover everything that can be hoovered, including the crevices at the skirting boards. Spray indorex. Hoover each day for the next few days.

Itstheprinciple · 01/08/2021 21:00

Front line or Advantage to treat the cat.

CornishTiger · 01/08/2021 21:01

Indorex buy two tins.

What are you using on the cat?

99victoria · 01/08/2021 21:01

We had this a couple of weeks ago - the whole house was infested. I was picking half a dozen fleas off my legs everytime I walked from one room to another.

We tried various bombs/foggers which were rubbish. Then we bought Indorex spray from the vets - 2 large cans - and did the whole house and we also got some oral tablets and treated both the cats (hid it under their Dreamies). They were all gone in 24 hours.

ThePlantsitter · 01/08/2021 21:01

Ugh, nightmare, commiserations.

Go to the vet for feels treatment if you haven't, and then indorex spray everywhere. Then vacuum, vacuum, vacuum and you will beat the fuckers 💪

purpledagger · 01/08/2021 21:01

I feel your pain Op, I'm going through this at the moment. The fleas love me, I'm covered in bites (they don't seem to like OH or the children through).

I've been using Frontline twice on the cat, but it hasn't worked. We've got something from the Vet, but we can't use it yet, because we've just used the frontline. The vets said there is something that costs about £30 which you put in your house and you have to leave it for a few hours. But again, there is no point using it until we can treat the cat.

For now, I've been combing the cat religiously a couple of times a day with an old headlice comb. Plus, vacuuming the house twice a day. We are still infested, but it's been keeping them at bay until we can use the new medication.

(In terms of vacuuming - make sure you empty your vacuum cleaner after each time you use as the fleas can escape. We empty out outside.

CornishTiger · 01/08/2021 21:01

Don’t bother with frontline. Fleas are immune to it. Ask local vet what their current recommendation is.

BonnyandPoppy · 01/08/2021 21:02

Frontline is rubbish and doesn’t work. Get advantage for the cat and Indorex for the carpets

dementedpixie · 01/08/2021 21:02

@Itstheprinciple

Front line or Advantage to treat the cat.
Frontline isn't always effective so I would avoid it and anything else with fipronil as the active ingredient
CornishTiger · 01/08/2021 21:03

By the way pets at home if they have a vet dept in that does prescriptions often have indorex cheaper than vets. However online much better. If you haven’t treated cat with decent stuff you have time to wait for delivery of sprays.

Freelikeabirdy · 02/08/2021 14:52

I’ve got for 4 cans of beaphar flea spray and 4 beaphar floggers.
Should I clean everywhere and declutter first before I spray and use the flogger thing?

To save getting bitten in the meantime wear pyjama bottoms tucked into white socks. Sit still and let them jump on the socks, and then grab them with a piece of sellotape.

Gross, but the only way i coped when a flea infestation was coming through from a neighbour's house and I had no control over the source.

theedgeofglory · 02/08/2021 18:59

Highly recommend just paying someone to treat your house. It will need two treatments something like 10 days apart (can't remember for sure) to get the current fleas & then any that hatch in the meantime.
We spent £££ on different sprays, big bombs, treatments, powders etc and nothing worked. He was an indoor cat as well so no idea how we even got such a bad infestation!
Once the guy had done his two treatments we didn't have them again and our cat didn't get fleas again either.

Freelikeabirdy · 03/08/2021 19:41

I’ve spent £80 now on different sprays, powder, bombs, hoovering every day, wiping everything down and i am still finding the fuckers!!
Do I just need to kee hoovering & cleaning?
I can’t afford to pay someone to treat it

I also move house at the end of the month, how do I make sure my new friends don’t travel with us?

ThePlantsitter · 03/08/2021 20:59

It is miserable. The trouble is that if the flea stuff makes the fleas jump off the cat they will then jump on to everything in the house. The only thing that worked for me was bravecto from the get for the cat and indorex for the house but I'm aware that's more money.

ThePlantsitter · 03/08/2021 21:00

From the vet I meant! Honestly my autocorrect changes after I've posted I'm sure!! Anyway as I'm here I meant to say that bravecto kills the fleas rather than repels. I'm sure there are others that do the same.

thecatneuterer · 03/08/2021 21:03

You're using the wrong stuff. You need Advantage for the cat and Indorex for the house. Anything else, apart from stuff you get from the vet, is pointless and you're wasting your time and money.

72WayTooCool · 03/08/2021 21:04

Thirding or fourthing Indorex. Got rid of our flea infestation and it's not too expensive either.

Cherrysoup · 03/08/2021 22:10

Indorex spray or RIP Fleas. Spray each room thoroughly. Close door, leave one hour, then vacuum. Repeat.

Bravecto is the only thing that works for us, I presume there’s a cat version. It kills the fleas that bite the treated animal.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/08/2021 22:14

Indorex and then again in 2 weeks. The cat needs a spot on treatment too.

beccahamlet · 03/08/2021 22:21

Indorex and vacuum vacuum vacuum. And obs treat the cats.
