London charity shop recommendations

Hello!

I am off to London next week for a few days and would like to go round a few charity shops. I'm staying in SW17 but near a tube station.

I love charity shopping and getting a few bargains. I like to look for clothes, kids' clothes, nick nacks etc. I am not looking for high end 'vintage' kind of charity shops and like a bargain@

I live in Edinburgh, so would direct visitors looking for similar to Morningside, Stockbridge, Portobello etc.

I'd be so grateful for your recommendations of the best London streets/areas to head to!

I always have enjoyed going to east sheen/mortlake, teddington and twickenham

Richmond isn't too bad as well but I I
Particularly like east sheen you can get a train Clapham junction and walk up from mortlake station

It's normally good for designer labels

My boss always says that there is an amazing one in tooting as well !

The Marie Curie one on Highbury corner in Islington opposite Highbury and Islington tube used to be really good. I don't know if it still is as I've moved to Westminster

And some very close to South Kensington tube station, but I can't remember the names. I'm sure google will know.

Any Fara kids is good. The one near (ish) Clapham junction is good. Barnes, Southfields. Weirdly not the Fulham one

My aunty lives in Fulham/Chelsea and buys all her clothes in charity shops, usually along Kings road. She always looks really well dressed!

The ones in Clapham Junction/Battersea/Wandsworth/Fulham are all pretty good. It’s the one thing I miss about living there!

RoseAddict · 01/08/2021 23:48

I’d say Blackheath or Highgate depending which end you’re near

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 01/08/2021 23:50

There’s some amazing ones in Notting hill.
Clapham is also pretty good.

Until you said 'NOT' vintage, I was going to suggest Bricklane in East London. There are a collection of more 'retro' clothing shops around Bricklane and Cheshire st, E2. Reyond retro being the largest I've ever seen before. Not the cheapest though, and mainly just adult, retro clothes/shoes.

For cheaper and more regular charity shops, Ealing used to be good. I would get off the central line at Ealing broadway and just walk down 1 side of the st, all the way to West Ealing. Cross the road, and walk back the other side. There is also a FARA childrens charity shop there on a side street. There used to be 10 charity shops along that walk, but I haven't done it in over 6yrs. (Used to work nearby).

Are there any that specialise in prom dresses?

BumbleBuzz123 · 07/10/2021 00:33

Any chance of me finding a Burberry trench ? Any suggestions where I can look pls.

Camden has millions and all really good too

I second Ealing. Not Ealing Broadway, the charity shops there aren’t great (I know people love Fara kids but when ever I went to the one in Ealing it was £5 for a faded primark T shirt that coat £1 new, they were always lapped up and people talked about how wonderful Fara were, but to me it was just over priced shit).

West Ealing is the best.

There is a particularly good one just down by Burger King. It’s not a chain charity shop. It’s fabulous for a dig.

There’s an Alice’s Attic there too which is very good.
