Sooo we need a new sofa (I hate sofa shopping!)

I have found one I quite like on the lovely Facebook market place!

Sofa was originally £1200 and the seller wants £800 it’s 2 years old which I think is a a lot as I can buy a new one for £1200 (I could just about afford this but wouldn’t leave a massive amount in the savings fund)

Would you pay? Or shall I offer more like £400 Confused or again is that still too much??

You can't give second hand sofas away around here. I'd pay £100 and no more.

This. You see them advertised for free quite a lot (also for a whole suite).
People do often think there is more value in 2nd hand furniture than there is.
If you like it, offer what you are willing to pay. They can always say no and keep their sofa.

I don't get how everyone can get cheap sofas 😭 I need some but can't afford it as on maternity. Off to check ebay!

I would guess it is because people need to get rid of them as soon as their new one arrives, but don't really want to be without one for very long, so there is a small window during which you need to get rid of your old one, if you are replacing it.

Also have a look in the furniture charity shops - see lots of different styles in there.

People want second hand sofas for free because it's an effort to collect.

Even my large estate car wouldn't fit a sofa. I think van hire cost around £100 including fuel and 3/4 hours of time time to collect a second hand sofa when I did it. Nobody is popping round within the hour to bag a deal in their average sized car

Our local Facebook is a revelation. It seems to be a rule that the sofas offered free are nicer and in better condition than the ones for which people want money. Someone recently was asking £400 for a sofa which was so badly faded at one end that it would have needed reupholstering. It didn’t sell.
