Living Room Help...with diagram of sorts!

We have the tiniest living room and no dining room in our very small 2 bed bungalow. Just moved in recently and have no clue how to make the space workable. I do need to scrap one sofa at least, but however i arrange the remaining furniture it still feels like sitting in a corridor between the hall/bedrooms and the kitchen/utility.....also nowhere to put a table and chairs so we have to eat on the sofa at the moment. Any thoughts or ideas would be very welcome as i am at a loss and living in the bedroom! I've attached a very bad diagram of how it is atm - many thanks

Could you get a corner sofa for where sofa one is. Move the tv to where sofa 3 is and move the desk to where tv cabinet is. Coffee table in front of corner sofa? Could it then be possible for a small table and chairs where desk currently is?

Could you have a table and chairs where the tv unit is, presumably that is a lighter corner of the room as there are windows.

Tall standing lamp can make it feel more living roomy.

Would you be prepared to share photos? That would make it much easier to advise.

What do you need to do in your living room? Entertain/eat/watch TV/work/craft? This will drive how you lay things out.

How many people need to sit and eat?

MinesAPintOfTea · 01/08/2021 12:03

Do you need the desk separate to the dining table?

clatteringhooves · 01/08/2021 14:03

Thanks for the replies. The room is 11' wide and 12' deep. I can remove furniture but can't replace any, and it's for 2 adults and a teenager. We have to eat there, tv is in there and dh's computer. The desk is a small upright writing bureau so not suitable to replace the table with and the sofa's are all 2 seaters.

If you can't replace any, what are the options for table and chairs?

I'm not normally a fan of TVs on walls but I think I would be looking at that option here.

Could you get a drop leaf table? I have a gate legged one and I think it would be the only really feasible way of fitting one into that room.

My sitting room is 11 by 12' and tbh I am astonished you can fit that much stuff in there. Mine has the front door, two sofas, a tiny coffee table and a TV and there is no way on earth I could squeeze another sofa and a bureau in here.

clatteringhooves · 01/08/2021 14:20

@Gladioli23 I have a table and 4 chairs in storage from our last house, just nowhere to put them! The 3rd sofa is pretty much just an obstacle in the middle of the room to squeeze around and the bureau is 22" wide and has a drop down writing surface which folds up iykwim. It's really very cramped and i'm wondering whether to just remove a sofa and rearrange whats left to make better use of the space. Just not sure how to. The tv on the wall might work, that would free up some space

I think you could have a sofa under each window with the coffee table in front, the TV on the wall where sofa 3 is and the desk in the place you have it. Get rid of one of the sofas.

Galassia · 01/08/2021 14:40

Is there an option to swap the living room with a larger bedroom?

How often do you all you sit down in the living room together?

Could you put a sofa in the teenagers room and then have two armchairs/club chairs in your living room instead of sofas to free up space?

You could look at comparable properties for sale on Rightmove etc and look at other peoples layouts!

Thank you for all the great ideas. Going to try out as many of the suggestions as possible and see which works best!
