Confused so went to hardware store, asked for help, the man asked me if my husband had sent me.

So I’m am a little confused. I want to board my loft. I’m happy with the current insulation as it’s quite hot most of the time. So I want to use the loft for storage.

Every you tube video uses loft legs, they are really expensive, work of they cost roughly £10 per square meter which I can’t afford.

So can I put loft board straight onto the joist? Rather than use loft legs? Anyone know? Will then cost a fraction of the price for a whole level
Of storage. Thanks

Ours was done without legs. The only difference I'm aware of is that you can't have as much insulation under the boards. If you don't want any more insulation I'd say do it. When you come to sell you might find the buyer complaining about inadequate insulation. But the worst case scenario is the boards have to be taken up again, not major operation really. (Check vapour barrier, but you need that whether you have legs or not.)

No, they will slip

They will be a hazard...at height

my dad bought extra beams and attached to the main beams in the loft.Should have hung with bean hangers really but then there would not have been so much room for insulation. but there is now less head room to stand. I weas pregnant and it was quite an urgent job.

the joists are not strong enough to support boards and storage.

Just buy the loft boards, buy some nails, and nail boards to joists. Job done.
If the insulation comes over the top of the boards then I would cut it on the top of each board so you are nailing the boards direct to the joists.

WATCH OUT FOR WIRES.

We drilled into joists it's fine. And I have a lot of weight up there
