£400 for a week’s camping but we have to bring our own loo roll!

“Because of Covid”. Is this normal? Shock
It’s an eco site. Family of 4. Large pitches in wildflower meadow. Honesty shop also closed Sad
They will give us one roll on arrival then we have to bring our own when that runs out. It’s kind of put me off. This place has rave reviews.
I’m hoping it’s going to be lovely in other ways...

Every self catering holiday I've every been on has only provided enough to see you through the first day. Granted toilet blocks usually have them but it's hardly onerous to take loo roll, is it?

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 31/07/2021 20:29

It’s camping, I’d expect to have to take everything hence we don’t camp!

Hellocatshome · 31/07/2021 20:31

So its the toilet roll not the £400 thats putting you off Hmm

No! I would expect a fully provisioned toilet block with plentiful loo roll, soap, and hand gel, especially due to covid but ive never been to such a basic site they didn't have loos

winewolfhowls · 31/07/2021 20:33

And 400 quid is steep for a week with a grass pitch, is is very near a major attraction?

magicstar1 · 31/07/2021 20:50

I’m just back from camping …€30 per night. Lovely, proper bathrooms with shower, bath, toilet etc. Toilet roll and hand wash provided. Electricity included if you want it.

KeepScrapingBy · 31/07/2021 20:53

We’ve camped for many years on different types of campsites and this is the first time that loo roll hasn’t been provided.
It’s not really comparable to staying in a cottage where we always expect to bring our own supplies.
We’re normally happy to pay more for a big pitch on a quiet site. We booked it back in March.
Just a bit tired of “because of Covid” pettiness I suppose! If everyone washes their hands, people using the same loo roll shouldn’t be a risk.

I've paid £1200 for a week in a caravan, we got one awful toilet roll provided, the sort that could make your hum bleed it's so hard.

KeepScrapingBy · 31/07/2021 20:59

Shapesorted no it’s not onerous, just a minor niggle that I wasn’t expecting. This is chat, are we not allowed to moan a bit about minor niggles?
magicstar most sites I’ve stayed on have been like the one you described. This year we decided to treat ourselves, hoping it will still be lovely though!

winewolfhowls* It’s not near any major attraction, we chose it because it looked peaceful and quiet with lots of space and privacy.

idontlikealdi That sounds grim, for that money you’d expect better! I must count my blessings. Holidays seem to be expensive this year, with little nasty surprises Sad

Lots of sites in France don’t supply loo roll so we always take our own when camping there.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 31/07/2021 21:21

These threads often make me wonder how much loo roll people get through. There is only one of me but during lockdown (when I could only use my own bathroom, and loo rolls were a big topic) I didn’t use one a month.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 31/07/2021 21:26

I'm obviously missing the appeal of camping but you could stay in a Premier Inn for 5 days for £400.
The poster who paid £1200 for a caravan - why not stay in a hotel for less time but have better facilities?

FairyWings4 · 31/07/2021 21:28

Sounds just like the one we just stayed at in Pembrokeshire... if it is (feel free to private message) then they do provide toilet roll! If not, please ignore this comment Grin

Shapesorted · 31/07/2021 21:28

Yes and I'm chatting back. We're going camping next week and I plan on taking loo roll as I do every year. You never know when you'll get caught short 😳

BathwaterBaby · 31/07/2021 21:28

So sick of business trying to save money and claiming it's COVID safety. We're in a holiday house with no towels, no books / games / dvds. It does have 3 toilet rolls though (stealth boast).

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 31/07/2021 21:32

Yes, a lot of companies are milking it a bit. Anyone would think they don't want to make any money. People might put up with it this year because there's little option, but will remember feeling ripped off and won't be inclined to go back in future.

mm8989 · 31/07/2021 21:37

Sounds just like the one we just stayed at in Pembrokeshire..

Was that Trellyn? honestly when I visited, they were watering the grass and veg patch, but asking visitors to cut showers to two mins.

profpoopsnagle · 31/07/2021 21:38

Use the opportunity to pretend you are on a French camp site, it is fairly normal there as well as providing your own soap. Then drink copious French wine, cheese, croissants etc to fulfill the experience. It'll pass.

One a month?! I don't use much when I go but I think what makes the difference is that I go very, very often - about every 90 minutes or so when at home. I drink a lot and don't like feeling like I need the loo - I can go for much longer when out and about. Maybe if we all used one loo roll a month there wouldn't have been all the shortages and panic buying in 2020...

One a month? 😳😂

I’m doing something wrong!

KeepScrapingBy · 31/07/2021 22:15

Some interesting replies.

Shapesorted That sounds sensible. You can’t take anything for granted! Grin

Not Pembrokeshire, I stayed on a lovely site there 2 years ago though and they provided all our washing up liquid, soap, shampoo and shower gel! It had to be biodegradable.

I’m taking 4 rolls for 4 of us for a week. We can always bring it back home again!

Good tip about French campsites. I’ll remember that if we go next year.

Oh and they have also closed the composting loo. So more campers using less loos, way to improve social distancing... Hmm

Fgs , it's toilet rolls .... and only £400 and.... you are camping. Just buy the toilet rolls and stop moaning.

girl71 · 31/07/2021 22:31

You are on holiday. Do you want to spend an extra £2.50 on Andrex to wipe yr arse or not.

Gods sake. People are
starving and dying on this planet and you are moaning about £2 worth of bog roll.
