Excellent charity shops in and around Cambridge and Suffolk?

Hi all,

I have a very shy, reclusive uni-aged daughter. She has a very eclectic style and loves shopping at charity shops for clothes, accessories and general (tat!) wonderful finds.

I'd like to take her to an area that has some treasure troves.

Does anyone have any places they're happy to share? We will make a day of it for the right place(s) so can be anywhere around Cambridge, Suffolk, Norfolk etc.

Pls do DM me if you'd prefer - i would be so grateful for suggestions.

Burleigh Street several down there (go to Mill Road for international eating while your there!) Cambridge
Bury St Edmunds - its a lovely town to wander round with several different charity shops scattered around (try St Johns Street first but one or two near the market & Abbeygate Street the road leading to the Gardens)

Thank you very much indeed @mumwon - I hadn't even thought about Bury - that's a great idea, thanks so much.

check market days I think they are Wednesday & Saturday
If you go down Abbeygate Street look down side streets for coffee shops or sandwiches - make sure you visit the gardens!
(If your daughters into art they have a great art supply shop Dennys in St Andrews Street)
I like Bury Grin

A lot of the EACH (East Anglia Children's Hospices) shops get good stock. The St. Elizabeth's Hospice shops do too and so does the Home-Start Mid & West Suffolk Charity Shop in Eye (Eye Suffolk, not Eye Cambs)

And it's a bit further afield but Norwich has some good eclectic shops and some great second-hand stalls on the market.

Thank you @bloodywhitecat - will check that out too, thank you 👍

Scope in Ely is great (maybe outing because I rave about it so much!) and the other charity shops there are also decent plus nice for a daytrip.

Thank you @pucelleauxblanchesmains - another one for the list 👍👍👍

Newmarket! they have some nice charity shops (& a really really good art supply shop!)
By the way Bury has the Range a little out of town they have some nice art supplies - (frames!) not so elaborate in paints/brushes or pens though
(I have obviously given away my hobby!)

mumwon · 01/08/2021 17:26

& Sudbury! ditto art shop

Norwich is great if you google where the charity shops are before you go - as they’re spread out from the main shopping centre. You can visit the cathedral whilst you’re down that end, it’s very pretty.

If you drive start in Cambridge and do Burleigh Street. Then head North to Ely and stop at Emmaus on the way. Ely has its own set of charity shops.

Also in Ely there is the Maltings, by the river. It is antiques on the bottom floor and vintage/tat by the top floor!

Brilliant.

Thanks everyone - some great suggestions here.

I'm sure DD will be thrilled - thanks again.
