What would you pay for someone to build flatpack furniture?

Obviously if you couldn't build it yourself and needed to pay a tradesman to do it. What would you be happy to pay?

Have a look on task rabbit in your area.

I did last night, there is no Task Rabbit in my area unfortunately otherwise it would've been ideal to sign up to!

I'd definitely pay someone to build flat pack furniture as long as it was a complete service and included attaching things to the walls.

I've no idea how I didn't slice of a finger or two hanging the bloody sliding doors on my wardrobes!

I would probably start at £15 per hour and get lots of pictures and testimonials of your work, then once established you would easily be able to increase the amount.

With wardrobe doors I've found that if I can use something to prop up the door at the bottom to the correct height it's usually easy enough to do the hinges. The cardboard extra pieces that come in every pack can work on lighter doors, but some select pieces of wood is better for heavier doors. Sliding doors on a pax wardrobe I would not be able to do myself.

We paid £150 for someone to build our huge wall shelving unit for our office. It was worth every penny, imo!

The diy guy I know charges £25 for the first hour then £10 per half hour.

I use Task Rabbit and pay about 20/hour for this and I think it's well worth it.

Something else to think about is professional organising/decluttering - there's definitely a market for that in some areas

Virtual PA might be something else that could work for you

I've asked on my local page if my service would be of interest to anyone. A few positive comments so far 🤞🏼

Why don’t you work for Task Rabbit.

I’m sure plenty of people would choose a female Tasker out of preference.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 01/08/2021 14:34

@LividLaVidaLoca they don't cover my area unfortunately, I already checked.

I'd rather pay a flat rate than an hourly rate so I knew what cost I was in for at the start.

I'd pay between £10 and £30 depending on size/complexity of item.

flameycakes · 01/08/2021 14:42

Physically I'm incapable, but thankfully ds2 is wonderful at anything like that, but I would pay someone if needed.

LividLaVidaLoca · 01/08/2021 14:43

Ah sorry, missed your update.

Can you message them to get on the books? Do you have an IKEA within 20 miles?

If not, steal their pricing and advertise on Facebook. Not ashamed to say we got TR to put all our nursery furniture up and get a handyman for similar stuff since.

Have no inclination or ability or time. For us it’s totally worth the money.

Porridgeislife · 01/08/2021 14:52

I think there’s potential to build up a tidy part time business in flat pack furniture. We have paid for it to be done in London.

You could also learn how to install plaster surrounds for Pax wardrobes as there’s demand for that as an economical alternative to custom built in wardrobes.

Serious question OP - if you want to train in something & you enjoy working with your hands, why don’t you look into learning a trade like electrician or plasterer? There’s a definite niche & opportunity for female tradespersons.

There are some more people interested and I've had a message off a local plasterer who says he always has customers who need this service so he can recommend me to people! This could actually work 😃
