Anyone worked as an online shopper in a supermarket?

I have an interview tomorrow for this position. Picking the groceries for the online shops. It's 4am-8am in sainsburys a few days a week. The hours are perfect for me as I can't find anything to fit in with school hours so dh will have dc then when I come home he will leave for work then I can get a few hours zzz once they are at school.
I'm thinking if it's the holidays I'll have enough sleep before work to do me or the dc are old enough I can doze on the couch for an hour if I really have to.
Has anyone done this work before? I know it won't be the most exciting job but I just really want a bit extra money every week that I've earned myself.
I'm a registered carer for dc so can only earn a little every week without it effecting my carers allowance so this seems perfect.
I've frightened myself by reading terrible reviews online though about how terrible to work is and people had really bad mental health problems and had to leave quickly Shock
I do already have a little part time job that I'll need to give up if I get this one but I really don't enjoy my current job so was hoping this would be better.

I haven't had that experience, but a close friend has.
She said it was good work if you are quick.Your pick rates are monitored quite closely.

A few years ago I did it. You walk a LOT and it can be hard work getting all the orders done but the time goes very fast and that time of the day, you won't have pesky customers in your way! Invest in some comfy but uniform appropriate shoes Wink

My daughter did it for a Christmas job, she is still there.
It's not the best job ever, but not the worst. It's very target driven so be prepared for that.
Online reviews are always a bit hit and miss for me, as disgruntled employees often post and it's not always balanced.
Go for it.. You never know.

Thank you, these are making me feel better 😊

I am one, but at a different supermarket. It's an OK job, quite physical and lots of walking. Comfy shoes are a must. You have to be quick and make sure you pick good dates and good quality.

Oh and be prepared after your first few shifts, everything will acheGrin

I was one at Sainsburys too a few years back. I loved the hours initially and how easy it was to pick up overtime, but it did wear me down a bit after a year. The job itself isn't bad, easy to get your steps in and you'll be surprised at how you learn to manage having a catch up with colleagues while still hitting your 160 items per hour target 😁 definitely invest in comfortable non slip shoes - emphasis on non slip, I went to jokingly kick someone on the back of the knee and ended up falling over myself Confused if I wasn't working multiple jobs at the time I would've tried staying on longer as an online shopper tbh.

Thank you everyone, I know I shouldn't pay much attention to online comments from ex staff but when I was reading them I was wondering wtf I had got myself into. I've still got the interview to get through but I'm hoping it works out and if I do get the job my body can cope with the early starts.

I do now, not for Sainsburys though. I do a bit of everything at work (delivery driving, shelf stacking, tills etc) but enjoy it the best. No customers (at least at the start of the shift) and I like trying to beat my pick rate. It is physical but I like the challenge of it

leslie77 · 31/07/2021 18:16

@lastandfurious do you also have to hit the 160 target? Is it quite achievable for someone? Do they give you a few shifts to build up to this and not expect it right away Blush

@leslie77 yeah they go easy on you to start with! You wouldn't be expected to be super quick straight away. Tbh it's not very strict where I work, as long as you're not taking the piss you don't get in trouble. It's just as important to be consistent and not make mistakes.
