we're staying with friends in Fife next week and fancy a couple of days somewhere else beforehand.

We've been to Edinburgh a few times and done the museum, zoo, lights place (can't remember the name!)

Not been to Glasgow other than a drinking weekend years ago

Me, dh and ds who is 9. Which would you go for?

There's loads more to do in Edinburgh - Castle, Dynamic Earth, walking tours, museum again (I've been so many times and still not seen it all), Royal Yacht Britannia, botanic gardens, a 9yr old should make it Arthur's Seat, portobello beach....
They're both great cities but very different. I would see what availability you can get on attractions before you decide as we're still in Covid restrictions and pre-booking up here.

Why not go to Glasgow and do a day trip to Edinburgh while you are in Fife?

rookiemere · 30/07/2021 11:58

Glasgow science museum would be great with a 9 yr old if it's open atm. You'd probably need to prebook.

HarrisMcCoo · 30/07/2021 12:13

DH took older DC to science centre in Glasgow earlier this month. You need to pre-book your tickets. A 9yo would enjoy it. My older ones are 14 and 11.

Workyticket · 30/07/2021 12:16

Thanks for the heads up about pre-booking!

We've got Fife stuff planned so no time to nip over to Edinburgh.

Glasgow was way cheaper hotels wise. Just wasn't sure there'd be much to do!

Glasgow -

Kelvingrove art gallery
Botanic Gardens
Science Centre
Transport museum
Loads of lovely parks

Batman filming in Glasgow at the moment too.

emmathedilemma · 30/07/2021 12:35

You could also drive up to Loch Lomond for the day from Glasgow (assuming you have a car)

newnortherner111 · 30/07/2021 12:39

Plenty to see in Glasgow as described. The Glasgow subway is a unique experience being with smaller than usual trains.

Jumpingintosummer · 30/07/2021 12:42

Everyman cinema good for evening in Glasgow.
Loop and scoop, Peasano and tantrum doughnuts v popular with our DC’s.

If you book Browns you can see the Batman filming close up!

iwannascream · 30/07/2021 12:48

The Flash movie is also filming in Glasgow at the minute, and I would also go to Glasgow in a heart beat over Edinburgh.

Workyticket · 31/07/2021 13:17

Thank you - think we're going with Glasgow!
