Longleat safari - £175! Is it worth it?

We have the opportunity to be passing by Longleat on our way back up north.

We have four kids, an 8yr old & three high schoolers.
For a family of 6 the entry price is showing as £175 which is realistically just a base price because we always seem to spend a small fortune on "extras" and food etc

Is it worth it!? Our kids are wayyyy past the point of being easily pleased, the teens can be grumpy wee bastards when they want to be, so I don't want to regret the outlay Blush

Please advise!

Crocodiles of the World in Brize Norton is worth a visit -

I would love to go there. I saw Crawl yesterday - a film about gators invading a house that was flooded!

Agree that I doubt think @BarbaraofSeville was being rude!
I live nearby and honestly don't think teenagers would be that impressed if you have already done something similar.

Check if they take Tesco vouchers, lots of the big days out do.

I think we came back with monkey poo on the car

@BarbaraofSeville was not being rude or ‘catty’ either. I think OP is being a tad sensitive!

We went to Longleat recently - highlight was a monkey shitting on the sun roof. Other than that, our car was undamaged, but saw a monkey holding part of a car indicator looking terribly proud of himself.

Take a picnic in the car, not the boot. We did the safari first, got there just after 10 (it opens at 10), but it was nearly 2 by the time we'd finished that, parked up and bought sandwiches and the kids were starving. Wish we'd had sandwiches to eat on the drive round. (You spend a lifetime waiting for them to shut one gate before opening the next to stop escaping lions, plenty of eating time).

And check the weather forecast, it would be a lot less fun to be trying to spot tigers hiding from the rain.

I'm not sure why everyone is recommending cotswold farm park....I went there with a 4, 5 and 9 year old. I'd say 9 is the max age to really get anything out of it and even he was a bit bored to be honest? Its just basically just like any other farm for kids and only those under 8 really enjoy feeding sheep/goats anyway?

You could try Black Country living museum but it's no where near as good as Beamish so if you've been there before you'll be disappointed at the scale of it

Deathraystare · 30/07/2021 14:26

Well if you think your kids would be bored going to Longleat, crocodile place, Cotswold Wildlife park, take me instead! Do you know how hard it is to get to these places if you don't drive???!!!

Vickim03 · 30/07/2021 14:59

We’ve done longleat loads of times. You can make a full day out compared to other places nearby. There is a bus you can go on through the safari if you don’t want to take your own car through. There’s shows in the long barn. I agree it may be boring for the teenagers tho they may like to hold a snake or tarantula. Lots of nice pubs nearby for food and a supermarket nearby by for sarnies. The food at longleat is pricey like all places like that.

MilkCereal · 30/07/2021 15:08

@ivfgottwins cotswolds farm park is a different place than cotswolds wildlife park

BackforGood · 30/07/2021 15:34

Another who is not sure why you've taken the hump at BarbaraofSeville's post. I certainly didn't read it as condescending, judgmental, or catty at all Confused

Crocodiles of the world is absolutely brilliant , quite small but so worth a visit .

Definitely go if you get the chance - you get quite a 'close up' feel with the crocs and the keepers are very knowledgeable. There was lots of croc-themed merchandise when I last went (Feb 2020) so if you have DC who are into that sort of thing, they'll love it.

There's a cafe that does lovely fresh-cooked bacon and egg butties too (or it did when I was last there).

I've been 3 times and never been bored there.
