What can I put in dd room that isn't a candle and won't get knocked over?

Dd (13) enjoys having friends round in the holidays, they go to her room and chat, TikTok etc. When they leave her room always smells...a little bit sweaty Confused I open a window during the day especially when I know they are coming but does anyone have any ideas what I could use to get rid of the smell?
I don't want to use candles for obvious reasons, Reed diffusers have a chance of being knocked over and I am not sure how over powering a plug in would be as her room is a box room!
Anybody got any ideas please or do I just shut the bedroom door and leave it?? Before anyone flames need I haven't mentioned anything to dd and I definitely don't want to discourage them coming round as would much rather they were here than hanging around in town!!

Use a plug-in and air the room out thoroughly.

Change the bedding, vacuum the carpet and drag out all the dirty clothes and crockery for cleaning.

Inscence sticks?

CoffeeBeansGalore · 29/07/2021 15:27

My daughter has a plug in with a lavender scent. Not overpowering and smells lovely. It's an Airwick one.

Only ventilation will get rid of the smell really. If the window can't be locked open a crack when they're in there (assuming she likes it relatively closed otherwise) then worth investigating an additional latch to do this. She should definitely have some ventilation when she's socialising, it'll be Covid soup in there!!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 29/07/2021 15:28

You can adjust the strength of the scent and turn it off at night if you wish.

NotMyCat · 29/07/2021 15:29

I've got an air freshener that's really nice, this one and I don't usually like them. The febreze version is good too

Electric wax melt. There’s an infamous MLM company that make / sell them or you can get same same but different on EBay etc. There’s no flame.

Roselilly36 · 29/07/2021 15:30

Neutradol gel comes in a little pot absorbs odours, they work brilliantly.

ineedaholidayandwine · 29/07/2021 15:33

Plug in or amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009Q3S8EC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1]]

Peachee · 29/07/2021 15:37

What @NotMyCat has shared. They are nice and can be hidden somewhere discreet. They smell lovely. We have one in our downstairs loo and it’s not too OTT..

rbe78 · 29/07/2021 15:43

Hmm, I really don't like the plug-ins - they generally release quite an overwhelming 'fake' scent, and whilst I am not in the least bit woo, I'm not convinced about constantly breathing in all those chemicals.

I had an electric essential oil diffuser in my room when I was a teen - the one I had doubled up as a funky light.

There's loads of different ones about. e.g. on Amazon

2anddone · 29/07/2021 15:47

Thanks everyone the window is definitely open when they are there and basically from morning to night! She doesn't have sleepovers at the moment but they do use her bed as a couch so the sheets could be changed more often than the once week they currently are. Will have a look at the febreve and nutradol next time I am in town.

I have a scentsy go that someone gave me that I charge up then switch on where I want it to be.

YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie · 29/07/2021 15:53

I have a Neom pod that I love, but pricy and fragile for a teenagers room. I’m sure you can get a cheaper electric diffuser, add some essential oils but make sure she knows how to use them safely, not to spill them on the surfaces etc

Electric diffuser for sure. A cheap one not a neom one.

LynetteScavo · 29/07/2021 16:02

I use a cheap diffuser and then used Neon oils in it. I wouldn't leave it in DDs room too long though. A Neutradol pot thing would be a good idea. Incense sticks would be horrendous Grin I annoyed the hell out of my parents with the things when I was younger.

Saidtoomuch · 29/07/2021 16:04

Hose them down before they come in and make heavy suggestions about deodorant.
Window on a permanent trickle vent, a plug in would be okay on a timer for a very short spell. I would want to be breathing in the chemicals in a bedroom.
What about old fashion potpourri scented with essential oils in a bag?

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 29/07/2021 16:04

I agree with rbe over breathing in plug-in chemical air fresheners.

I would get an essential oil diffuser, you can buy them relatively cheaply on Amazon, add water and a few drops of essential oils and they just puff away. In my kitchen one I use lemon and lime or orange essential oils. You can mix your own fragrances but start with simple stuff like lavender.

Plus you can have them change colour or retain a colour, a constant stream or it only releasing the scent at set intervals.

Saidtoomuch · 29/07/2021 16:05

*wouldn't

AleynEivlys · 29/07/2021 16:05

Fragrance lamp? They purify the air as well as making it smell nice. You can get synthetic fragrances or natural ones with essential oils. They also look pretty and can be easily matched to decor etc. I've got a couple from Ashleigh and Burwood. Have to admit, I like the option of using eucalyptus/menthol fragrances when I have a cold!

moose62 · 29/07/2021 16:06

Zara do some really nice room sprays for a quick spritz when they are not in the room.

Bells3032 · 29/07/2021 16:08

www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/295527450

I used these when I had an awful smell in the bathroom from the toilet upstairs leaking. you can get loads of different flavoured refills

supercritter · 29/07/2021 16:09

Ultrasonic diffuser with essential oils. No heat, usually have timer and switch off when water runs out and no nasty chemicals. Can sometimes get cheap at tkmaxx
