Skin tag on face actually a wart!

Asking on here for traffic, I'm a bit panicky and health anxious at the moment, so I'm aware that I sound neurotic and mad.

My 11 year old DD had what I thought was severe eczema. After not getting better despite lots of treatment, she was diagnosed with psoriasis and is currently awaiting a referral to dermatology.

Alongside this, she had a black toe, with something growing out the top. I was convinced it was a verruca, the paramedic at the GP wasn't sure, thought it maybe a fungal infection (as did the pharmacist), but I was sure of it, due to the little black dots in the growth bit. I was vindicated when the 'growth' fell out after I used Bazooka (I gave up on the fungal cream as I guessed it was a verruca under the nail). The blackness disappeared immediately.

She also has several warts around her nails, on her fingers, etc. I put Bazooka on them, but they don't seem to be going, but don't seem to be getting bigger.

During her really bad psoriasis flare, she had dry patches around her eyes - like a panda. She developed a little growth under her eye. It continued to grow down.

Her eyes are now recovered, but she has this long thing under her eye. Her friends kept mentioning at school, it rubbed on her glasses and she is embarrassed by it.

I asked the GP about it. They confirmed she's been referred to dermatology, but have said skin tags are not treated on the NHS.

However, I zoomed in on the photos and realised it is not a skin tag. It has multiple wispy bits and lots of blacks bits in it, just like a verruca has. Googling has shown filiform warts and it is identical to them, it is very long.

I am worried. I am worried that she has all these warts.verruca/filiform warts and psoriasis. My brother had skin problems, does this indicate something?

I'm really, really anxious right now, really really worried.

Your poor daughter - sounds like she needs to see a dermatologist asap.

DD had warts all over her fingers and face when she was 5/6 yrs old.
GP didn’t give a shit, took her to see a private dermatologist instead and he prescribed Differin. All the warts were gone in a matter of weeks.

Push your GP to refer her to a dermatologist.

The warts are caused by the HPV virus. I had a filiform wart on my face that eventually dried up and fell off. It looked like a small mole for about 2 years and I wasn't that bothered by it. It then grew a lot bigger and had little fronds with black dots. Interestingly it grew bigger when I had Covid so I think my immune system had taken a battering. It suddenly dried up and eventually fell off. There is no mark there now.

I would suggest boosting the immune system with zinc and Vit D.

Also try a herbal wart remover but if it's on the face you cannot use the usual OTC wart removers

Tell the GP how distressing this is for your daughter and push for a dermatologist appt.

So I've phoned up the dermatology department, as advised by the GP, do find out the status of her referral.

They can't find her referral and will phone me back!!!! It was sent in June!!!

Looking on her patient access records, I can see that a dermatologist wrote to the GP a couple of weeks ago, saying that she thought it was eczema and prescribing a different treatment regime. She acknowledged that the treatment shouldn't be started in primary care, but due the pandemic there is a backlog, so it can now be started in primary care. NO ONE has told this, no treatment has been given.

So I'm assuming that the GP thinks they've referred us and that's that, yet the dermatology wrote to the GP and advised them and won't see DD.

So I'm in limbo. I WANT DD to be seen by dermatology, not just treated for eczema/psoriasis that has never healed and now smells (since January) and warts on her hands and face.

Thank you all.

I finally got through to dermatology. They confirmed what I feared...they'd sent info over the GP, but were not going to see DD.

I phoned the GP. They looked on their system. They reiterated they couldn't do anything for the skin tag. I interrupted, saying it was actually a wart, then was told I needed to see a pharmacist who could give something to put on to make it fall off, I asked if they were sure this would be suitable for under the eye? Was told to ask, then if the pharmacist couldn't, they'd advise seeing the GP, then the GP wouldn't be able to not see us.

Asked about treatment the consultant advised a couple of weeks ago, was told the GP should have contacted me.

I can't complain about the GP. The consultant has said that DD doesn't have psoriasis, but having refused to see her in person, I find this rather unreliable. Yes, some lesions look like eczema, but the outside of the wrist and elbow, behind the ear and in the hair, all are very typical psoriatic plaques, the GP (who has a specialism in dermatology agrees), and they are like my brother's, my dad's, my sister's and my husband's, all of whom have diagnosed psoriasis. DD's skin seems to have got miraculously better during last week's heatwave.

The other worrying thing is she has white patches where the worst bits were - large patches, but they look like burnt skin, or more like scarred skin, where skin has been cut in texture, not just white, but shiny and thickened and tight.

Check everywhere for health cover - work, home insurance, banks etc.

If you have it demand private referral.

My GP is so shite - its near impossible trying to access healthcare for anything thats not life threatening.
