Tax credits question! I never know the answers!

I was working in a school on a rolling contract.
Contract ended at the end of July (31st)
I have a new job (school) starting on 2nd September.

My work told me that I would get my usual pay this month and then a follow on payment next month to cover holidays (pro rata pay) meaning that for WTC purposes I was still employed (term time only contracts)
Except I’ve looked and I’m being paid double this month! I have no idea why this is as that was not what I was told by the Manager.
I’ve emailed the finance office, but obviously WTC only give you a 4 week run on and there will be about 4 days I run outside of this.

So, do I tell Tax credits at the end of August (28 days) that I’m not working, but update with the new job that’s starting, or do I just keep quiet, start new job and then tell them and let them sort out the 5 day overpayment.

I don’t want to go onto UC particularly do I try very hard to avoid changes that would put me on that.

I’m not too happy about a double payment either, as now I have to last it out. I can only hope another small payment is coming in August!

I wouldn't tell them, surely it's your overall income for the year that matters?

5 days of not working is a holiday, you've not actually stopped working, you've just changed employer.

For working tax credits, it's your yearly income that matters. So update them when you start your new job.

I don’t know. I mean, the money I estimated will be right give it take, and as soon as I start my new job I will update them and the claim will go down (earning more money)

I figure it’s a few days outside of the 28 day window really, it’s not months and months is t? It’s going to be an overpayment of about £50 or less

It’s just annoying as I was assured by work that I would be paid in August. Now I have double money now, none coming in August (I assume) and this weird few days.

In schools you usually get your money over the 12 months which avoids all this so I can’t understand at all why they would have paid it all at once!
