Amazon reading glasses

Broke my (prescription) reading glasses today and it looks like it's going to be a couple of weeks before I can replace them.

I need them both for work and as I'm currently writing my MA thesis.

Are the non prescription ones terrible for your eyes? I'm also not sure what strength to get (can't remember my prescription). They'd literally be for a few weeks until I could get sorted.

Are you long sighted?

They should be fine- You may need different strengths for different tasks- the PC screen is at a different distamce to a book, for example.

We keep lots of cheap pairs of different strengths around the house, one in the kitchen drawer for reading ingredient lists, one in the lounge for newspapers, different ones by the PC.

Yep, long sighted.

www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B084T8JFWW?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp&tag=mumsnetforu03-21 were the ones I was looking at.

Your opticianwill have a copy of your prescription. Failing that, wouldn't it be better to go into a shop that sells OTC reading glasses than faff around with Amazon?

B& m do a good range and you can try them if you've one near you.

PickleSarnie · 28/07/2021 13:52

My optician said they would be fine.

They aren't well built so will probably break easily and obviously won't have anti glare etc. But assuming you get close to your actual prescription they won't damage your eyes (or so my optician says)

BridgetInHerBravery · 28/07/2021 13:52

They're fine, I use them instead of my varifocals for reading in the bath or bed, and have a pair in my bag for just in case.

If you can pop to a pharmacy or supermarket with a reading glasses stand you can check what strength works for you.

I'm +2 and buy mine from Poundland

GrrRightBackAtYou · 28/07/2021 13:54

Get a copy of your prescription from your opticians so you can get ones similar to your own prescription.

I buy ready readers from home bargains for about £2.99.

I wear contact lenses for distance and use ready readers on top of my lenses for close work. My optician says this a perfectly acceptable solution, they will be fine as long as you don’t have a really strong prescription with an astigmatism that needs correction.

Thanks! Will have a look in my local B&M. Never thought about looking in there.

It's just a stop gap measure until I can get a new set of prescription ones.
