Boaking child who wants to keep me company

6 y.o has been a bit off colour all week. Complaining of sore tummy. She perked up today and was back to her usual self.

I vvv stupidly let her eat an orange as a bedtime snack. She has just spewed all down the stairs and I don't think we are done yet.

I have not yet had to deal with any major D and/or V incidents. Tell me your battle scars, and best tips to avoid me being next.

Going to be a loooonnnng night.

If you have mattress protectors, layer the bed now so if she vomits during the night you can just pull the soiled layer off and not have to faff on as much. (protector, sheet, protector, sheet)

Bucket by the bed with layered bags.

Something bland like half a slice of toast or a digestive biscuit might help to settle her stomach.

A million bed sheets so you can whip one off and throw another one. Just have them piled near the bed. Also pillows, pillow covers and nightwear for you both.

Wipes or wet cloth.

A bucket.

Sleep as soon as you can, you'll likely be up half the night.

Hope she's better soon

Have the bucket and by chance she is on a protector, we are on the sofa bed downstairs. She is asleep now, but restless.

She is such an insane trooper she was probably feeling like shit all day and just didn't mention it. It's a funny bug this one. Started saying she had a sore tummy Sunday night. Monday really listless, totally off her food, had a temp at one point but that hasn't come back. Tues back to her chipper self, lovely form all day, then this.

If it's not Covid it's some other pestilence.

Norovirus is doing the rounds atm. Giving all hard surfaces near where she's vomited a wipe over with a bleach solution (if they'll tolerate it) and washing fabrics on a hot wash is probably a good idea.

Never heard the term boaking nor heard 'spewed' since I was 15! Diarrhoea and/or vomiting normally lasts less than 24hrs. I agree with tucking a towel around her pillow, plus 1 under her and into the mattress. Bucket next to the bed, with another towel underneath it and tissues inside.

The main thing is that to keep fluids up if she is vomiting or having diarrhoea. Small sips of water or very dilute squash, rather than big gulps. Nothing oily, spicy or diary.

If she doesn't settle ....

Ask her to jump up and down.
If it hurts and she can't take her to A and E, could be appendicitis

BlackeyedSusan · 28/07/2021 01:33

fluids in little sips.

only toast and plain biscuits to eat as she recovers.

better than a toddler who vomitted over themselves then tried to climb up me in fear...
