Where should I book a few days always at the end of September? I live on the south east coast so have done Hever, Dover, Knole, Leeds Castle etc.

Two adults, no children to keep entertained Smile, give me your best suggestions please.

I came on to say the peak district, Chatsworth house is great plenty to do there and as pp said there are other historical buildings close by.

Go looking for priest-holes in Warwickshire (not an euphemism 😂)

So many beautiful historic homes I haven’t visited 🤗
I’ve had National Trust and English Heritage membership in previous years but just discovered HHA on one of the websites which gives free entry to lots of these properties potentially saving loads of money

I love Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall.
If you go to the latter, read about Bess of Hardwick before you go. She was fascinating. She built Hardwick.
Here’s her Wilki entry, but her autobiography is really interesting!
