North Norfolk on a rainy day

Waffle12 · 27/07/2021 18:01

Just looking for recommendations of things to do with 2 young children on rainy days in North Norfolk please? Preferably based mainly inside/under cover, or at least partly so we have options if it starts to pour down. We are based near Sheringham.

Children are 6 and nearly 2.

Thank you.

We go to Norfolk on Friday so watching with interest.
So far we have a day boat on the Broads and Bewilderwood booked. Both outdoors but we’ll put coats on.
I’m thinking NT Bickling Eatate one day.
Maybe Norwich another?

Norwich Castle

There are little museums in both Sheringham and Cromer

See if there's anything on at the Littke Theatre in Sheringham or the theatre on the pier in Cromer (they sometimes have a good old fashioned 'seaside special' show)

Nearest NT places are Felbrigg Hall and Blicklng

You could try a day boat on the Broads (hire from Wroxham)

Yes to Norwich castle.
Any of the larger garden centres are worth a potter - Notcutts or Highways leisure
Arcades at Yarmouth along the seafront - penny machines are good for killing time
Sealife centre at Yarmouth
Swallow aquatics and animals encounters at East Harling (quite small but worth a look if you’re desperate)!
Gressenhall museum (lots outside if the weather improves but the actual museum is also good)
I know these are more central / south Norfolk but the roads are generally quite clear so shouldn’t take you too long!

Hunstanton sea life place.

Is the North Norfolk steam train still running fromSheringham to Holt? We used to love that.

Roselilly36 · 27/07/2021 18:32

Glass blowing at Langham glass, with the opportunity to make a piece, you need to book.
Wells next the Sea, fish & chips, a ride on the train to the beach
Sea palling, small place but gorgeous Sandy beach, fish & chips, pub, hot doughnuts.
Great Yarmouth, miniature village, pier, crazy golf, Dotto train.

Hemsby.
Norwich city centre, visit Dippy at the Cathedral, shopping, lunch out.
Visit a vineyard
Garden centre.
So much to do in Norfolk. Enjoy.

There is a splash fun swimming pool in Sherringham.

It's been getting a refurb, and I'm not sure if it's reopened need yet

I didn't realise Dippy was in Norwich cathedral

Thursford steam museum (traction engines, steam dance hall organs that play, small roundabout)

Soft play at Wells

Cinema at Cromer

Tiny shell museum at Glandford

Cley Marsh Conservation centre : sit at the window and use the telescopes / webcam to look at birds while eating cake

Pottery cafe in Holt

DiscontentedWoman · 27/07/2021 19:06

We like the Mo museum in Sheringham. It's not huge but would keep the kids occupied for a couple of hours

DiscontentedWoman · 27/07/2021 19:07

Under normal times there's swimming at Alderman Peel in Wells, also Woodlands Leisure above upper Sheringham. Might be worth a try.

DiscontentedWoman · 27/07/2021 19:08

Sheringham little theatre is fab if there is something on!

Shelleyjelly80 · 27/07/2021 20:04

Muckleborough military collection is great for a rainy day! We did it at half term last October, our then 4yr old loved it!

Waffle12 · 27/07/2021 20:13

Great- thank you for all your replies- lots of options to look at Smile

Visit the archaeological dig at Sedgefield. If it is pouring all day they won't actually be digging but will be working around showers on other days and there is an information hut where you can see what they have found.

EducatingArti · 27/07/2021 20:19

Sedgeford. That was a stupid autocorrect.

Elpheba · 27/07/2021 20:20

There’s a circus in Cromer at the moment until the 3rd with a 3pm showing and there’s a promo code somewhere saying all tickets £10 from now until it finishes.

Mirrorxx · 27/07/2021 20:22

@EducatingArti oh wow I’d forgotten all about that. I visited a friend working on the dig during summer at university

EducatingArti · 28/07/2021 09:57

@Mirrorxx
I have volunteered there for 3 years. I haven't gone this year though. They have found the only Anglo-Saxon malthouse complex in the UK.
