Peugeot 3008

As my first car, I had a little Peugeot 2004. It broke down on me several times on the motorway and I vowed never to get one again ( even though it was really old and I didn't have much of a clue about cars). On mechanic said to me 'never ever get a Peugeot again. Funnily enough we had the old 504s while we were growing up, It was the only car my dad would buy.

Since having kids, I've always driven a saloon and had two Vauxhall Insignias which, to be fair, have been great cars. However, it can be a squash with 5 people and luggage so I'm thinking about something that has a bit more room. My drive is very narrow and getting the Insignia in is OK but anything bigger width ways would be a struggle. I noticed the 3008 has about the same width as the insignia. The Ford C max is wider I think.

So, does anyone have one and would you or wouldn't you? It's going to have to be a 2012/13 plate atm as money is tight.

I had a Peugeot With fuel injection, when it broke down with 14,000 miles on the clock the RAC rescue said one of the injectors had failed.
Never mind he said, you got 3 more to fail another time!
I went back to trusty VWs.

Oh that doesn't sound convincing Bumblebee. I did have a Passat at one stage.

I don't think you're going to find more room in a Peugeot 3008 than an Insignia, to be honest. The 3008 is based on the 308 platform, which is a competitor to the Vauxhall Astra -- so a size down from the Insignia.

If you need more space, have you looked at an Insignia estate? Or maybe a Skoda Superb, they're enormous inside.

There's a Peugeot 5008; the current one is an SUV but the previous one had more of an MPV style. You might find that a better fit than a 3008?

Peugeot went through a period of, er, eccentric reliability in the early 2010s so if you're set on one, I'd check its history carefully to make sure it's been looked after by previous owners.

Me and dh have owned Peugeots combined for almost 30 years. I’ve broken down once. Him never. Looking to get a new car soon and it’s going to be another Peugeot.

Bloodystupid, That's very helpful thank you. I thought it looked fairly roomy inside but maybe the pictures were deceiving.
The Skodas seem pretty reliable nowadays. I've not been in one since the 80's!

Thanks Panda, interesting. I guess it luck really with used cars. I saw one estate and it looked nice. Just got the width thing to worry about with estates. The Insignia estate is wider than the saloon.

DH drives Peugeot 3008, loves it. He has owned all different makes in the past inc luxury brands, his last 3 cars have all been Peugeot, says it all.

Love mine! Probably not the roomiest compared to other cars but it's lovely to drive. I used to have a 206 and was so sad when it died.

We can get a double buggy and loads of shopping in the boot. I have 2 isofix car seats in the back and there's no way of sitting anyone between them but without them it's fairly comfy.

It's a 2012 so presumably the same shape/size. It's had some work done but nothing another car might not have needed

Howmanysleepsnow · 27/07/2021 16:18

I had a 2011 3008. She was brilliant. Loads of room in the boot.
She broke down once in 3 years: leaky steering fluid hose.

We have one - 2012 reg. A really solid workhorse of a car with 122k on the clock. It’s had the regular services and maintenance as required and we’ve had no big problems with it. The boot space and front are roomy but this is at the cost of fairly limited back seat space. There’s not all that much legroom and it’s uncomfortable for 3 in the back. While your dc are little it’s fine though.

Scantilydoesit · 27/07/2021 16:38

Thank you to all the Peugeot people. I have 3 children and whilst the eldest (12) often goes in the front locally, when I go on longer journeys she sits in the back. The kids are 12, 10 and 8 and still have seats ( though not the big isofix type now). It sounds like it may be a bit of a squash again don'y you think?

The problem is, I don't have loads of choice as I only drive automatic.
Would anyone buy from a distance as lots of places deliver now?
I've had pre-purchase inspections before from the AA.

We've got the newer SUV style one. You can't fit a booster seat in the middle between two other car seats easily - your 12yo could probably squeeze in without one. We have 3yo, (soon to be) newborn + 12yo and he can squeeze in the middle without a seat as he doesn't need one, but it's not really comfortable for him. We are guessing this will be fine for small local drives but probably nothing over about an hour.

For long journeys we are going to move the baby's seat into the back middle. It does fit, but only just and only when we belt the base in as there's no isofix in the middle. It doesn't fit when not on the base as it needs that bit of extra height to raise it over the bottom of DS2's full sized seat!
