On Friday (23 July) evening, some members of the RNLI Tower lifeboat crew were verbally abused while reporting for duty.

RNLI Tower reported that the reason for the verbal assault was 'due to their role'.

@TheDrsDocMartens

Priti Patel said something about making it illegal to rescue refugees in trouble in the water. RNLI said they’d rather be arrested than watch people drown.
😯 she really said that? Good god.

Remember the new tack the government takes over it's actions is to blame the voters ... This is what you wanted.

As I said on the deleted thread that became a magnet for the hardpeople of MN to strut their stuff, I listen to my conscience before any law.

I hear the RNLI have had a huge increase in donations which gives me some hope for this country.

I suggest watching a film called Dheepan. It's brilliant and makes you quite proud to be British (or British years ago when we were more accommodating). It's a very good watch about the modern refugee experience

It's brilliant and makes you quite proud to be British

until you remember the existence of the likes of Farage and Patel.

Well yes it shows what Britain SHOULD be like. Anyway, its a great film

I work in a coastal town and one of the tradesmen we use is a volunteer for the RNLI. He has his own rather right wing views about refugees (although he wouldn’t distinguish, he classes them all as immigrants.) but he would never not rescue one from the sea.

If we are going to quibble about who we rescue, that should be a blanket policy across the U.K. paddleboarder going out in bad weather? No rescue. Man jumping in the sea to kill himself? No rescue. Parent letting their child go in to deep and said child gets swept off in rip tide? No rescue.

Life or death shouldn’t be political.

Life or death shouldn’t be political

Quite right

DGRossetti · 30/07/2021 08:16

Life or death shouldn’t be political.

Half right.

Your life and death shouldn't be political. But theirs should be. That's the TL;DR of Patelspeak.

I had a post deleted because it had a picture of Patel inspecting her stormtroopers and I just asked what shade of Feldgrau is most "British"

I should have said ideally life or death shouldn’t be political.

You're right looking at their books. 192m which is an improvement
