Anyone awake I can chat to? Panic building and feeling very sorry for myself.

I have COVID - feel absolutely like crap. Haven't slept. I'm a teacher and, after singularly the hardest year I have ever known in education, scraped myself to the end of term on Friday only for DD to test positive. I followed her on Sunday. I've been double vaxxed for about 6 weeks so it's just really bad luck.

I've been awake since 2.30 with panic building. I don't really know why. I just about keep all my plates spinning at the very best of times and I'm scared everything is going to come crashing down.

If anyone can just indulge me in harmless small talk, I'd be really grateful.

DH is a teacher and would agree that it has been the toughest year yet and he's old. Well done for making it to the end of the year.
What a total bummer with the Covid timing. Do you have any co-codamol?

CliffsofMohair · 27/07/2021 05:20

You poor love.
Teachers are amazing.
Spot of Olympic watching maybe?

Postdatedpandemic · 27/07/2021 05:22

Olympics seem a good idea. How old is DD?

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 27/07/2021 05:24

I'm a teacher and I understand. It has been so tough with no support from the government. Can you distract yourself by chatting on here? It's light outside now, things always seem better in daylight. Have you got a good series you can binge on?

Nonmaquillee · 27/07/2021 05:33

Can you go and make a cup of tea?
Write a to-do list for the day with a couple of manageable things as well as something nice?
Sit outside if you have a garden?

Also a teacher here and I am awake thinking about work. I am thinking about making a cuppa and watching the Olympic Games or location location location. When I was pregnant I used to wake up with the most all consuming anxiety (always between 4 and 5) and location location location really calmed me down! No idea why.

youshallnotpass9 · 27/07/2021 05:34

I am also watching the Olympics, its taking me a few days, but I think I have gotten myself onto a good timing of watching things during the night, sleeping then waking up to watch more things.

Depending on how you look at it, my partner has just lost his job, silver lining, I don't have to worry about watching my son during the mornings, so can fully concentrate on the Olympics at night.

On the other hand, he has just had a few interviews one he felt went very well and they want an immediate start if successful, which might mean I need to adult again in the morning. No more late night Olympics for me,

roaringwater · 27/07/2021 05:38

It is feeling a little bit better now it's light, that's absolutely true!
DD is 18 and is bouncing back pretty quickly, thank goodness. I have two other teens though and I'm paranoid they're going to get it back to back so we'll self isolate for weeks. I know there's not a thing anyone can do about it but I just needed some proper relaxing time off so badly.

I've a huge stack of books and access to all the streaming services but the last couple of days I've been too feverish and anxious to maintain focus on anything.

I watched the Davina menopause documentary last night and wish I didn't because I'm stressing about my bone density now too.

Thank you all for being so kind x

More responses while I was typing!
Youshallnotpass - fingers crossed for your DH's job.
I did get up and make a cup of tea - pouring down here so I might give the garden a miss but I sat by the open window for a bit.

Flowers Bear for you, hope you feel better soon and your other children don't get it.

I would try to rest, take some painkillers if you need to. If not watch the Olympics or something easy on Netflix etc.

My cat is also watching the window, she has been desperate to go out in the dark and rain but she is 16. I hope you get a nice bit of summer holidays.

Silkiecats · 27/07/2021 05:55

I often plan holidays when I can't sleep. I have been doing Isles of Scilly tonight and seeing pictures of the Walrus and gig racing.

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 27/07/2021 06:01

OP, I'm so sorry - agree this year has been the worst ever for so many people (me included). I'm awake because we've just moved back to the UK from abroad and the dogs are still on the wrong time zone and keep waking up early! Love the idea of watching the Olympics! I might do that too. Hope you feel better soon and recover quickly.

I’m a teacher, so sorry to hear this. When we’ll enough try and use the time to completely indulge yourself baths, reading, eating, watching tv, making plans. Hope you feel better soon x

roaringwater · 27/07/2021 06:16

Thank you all. It's nice to have some friendly words. I know people have it much worse - just at a pretty low ebb. Thank you for your kindness.

Sorry you are poorly Sad. Good to hear your DD hasn't been too ill. My DD17 has covid too. We're on day 7 of isolation and I've run out of cupboards and rooms to clean. Excitement for today is a food delivery shop arriving this morning 🥳. Have you or daughter lost your taste? My DD did for about 4 days and all I heard was 'I can't taste anything ' and burying her head in the fridge 'proving' she couldn't taste anything by eating spoonfuls of mustard, vinegar, mayo etc so we turned it into a little game. When her taste finally came back a little bit, she danced around the kitchen.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

youshallnotpass9 · 27/07/2021 06:26

@roaringwater

Thank you. Lets keep those fingers crossed that he gets the job but can start after the Olympics is over.

Then I will figure out the paralympics when it arrives, although hopefully I will have DS loving it as much as I do.

Although I am not sure what the neighbours thought this morning, when he was yelling kick her in the head, we were watching the taekwondo

Cissyandflora · 27/07/2021 06:29

Sorry to hear you’re going through such a hard time. This will pass though. It won’t all come crashing down. You’ll feel better and hopefully have a good break- from work at least.

My daughter has Covid. She’s in the bedroom isolating. So far none of us have caught it from her but I’m thinking it can only be a matter of time. We share a small flat and have one bathroom.

I hope you’re feeling better now it’s daylight.

Notcoolmum · 27/07/2021 06:33

Middle of the night anxiety is awful. Have you got an oximetre? They are good for knowing your sats and can be very reassuring.
