BBC Alba

My DH works from home and quite often watches telly to give his eyes a rest.
He always switches the channel to Alba when he finishes.
Has anyone else seen it? Every now and then a programme comes on and the language is, I think, Gaelic.
The rest of the time it is a weather forecast.

DH sometimes watches it for the sport.

Mydogisagentleman · 26/07/2021 12:52

To be honest, I’ve never seen anything other than children’s programmes or speaking our language with Rhonda someone

Alba is the Gaelic name for Scotland.

Starjammer · 26/07/2021 13:22

BBC Alba is a Scottish-Gaelic channel and only has progamming in late afternoon-evenings. I'm guessing during the day it's just placeholder programming, hence the weather forecast.

OH sometimes watches sport on it but as the commentary is in Gaelic he can't understand a word they're saying Grin

Hen2018 · 26/07/2021 14:15

We watch S4C for the sport and local news.

newnortherner111 · 26/07/2021 14:56

I have watched a couple of their programmes on IPlayer. Most recently an old documentary about Runrig.

RaraRachael · 26/07/2021 17:50

They sometimes have good Celtic type music bands on, so I'm told as the names mean nothing to me.

Mydogisagentleman · 26/07/2021 18:30

I’ve watched a couple of music programmes.
I have to say I love listening to the talking too. It’s unlike any language I have heard before

We watch it for the music programmes and I agree that the language is beautiful and hypnotic. We've got Celtic roots, though.

I watch it to try and learn Gaelic.
My favorites are an educational cartoon called "S'e Iasg a th ann" (I am a fish) and "Dhan Uisge" (Into the water) which is some nutter running about and diving into lochs
