Designer Labels

I like the feature in Woman’s Own where they do “ Designer/Deal” comparisons. Really eye opening! There were 2 skirts, admittedly not exactly the same pattern but both a pretty floral. One was Emilia Wickstead ( can’t say I’ve ever heard of her) & cost an eye watering £1070. The other was Primark priced at £13! Some of the other clothes & accessories were pretty much identical but varied hugely in price. I just wondered if you go for designer labels or really don’t mind/can’t afford it? Personally I can’t afford it. I always remember seeing a plain white Paul Smith t shirt which was around £300 & thinking what’s the point of paying that when you get a perfectly good quality white cotton t shirt from Asda or somewhere for a fiver!

You are paying for more than the name. I would imagine a thousand pound skirt will last longer and be made with a better quality thana £20 price.ark alternative. You're also looking at the impact on the environment and the people making the cheap versions. You choose what's right for you but don't think you are getting the same product.

I would rather pay around £50 for a decent white shirt that is likely to last 10 years than £10 for a white shirt from Primark.

But I wouldn't pay the £300 for a white shirt because at that point you're just paying for the label.

I have a few things in my wardrobe that cost £300+, mainly smart dresses or suits/jackets. Most of which are over 10 years old and still get worn.

This. For tailored dresses, you are paying for the fitting and the quality of fabric that you get to choose too.

I go for high end or designer labels where I really really like something and it looks great and is therefore worth it. I have money and I’m more than happy to spend it on looking and feeling good. I wouldn’t buy something just because it was a name or label. But you can absolutely tell the difference between something that’s good quality and well made and something that cost a fiver from Primark.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 24/07/2021 13:37

I pay for quality but not designer. So high end high street is fine. Primark is a waste of money and expensive on a cost per wear basis.

korawick12345 · 24/07/2021 14:00

The only way clothes can be sold for those very low prices is by people who have far less than you being exploited. The massive expansion of low quality , low price clothing is an environmental disaster and built on the backs of people who have very little. Better to have much less stuff and pay a bit more for it

No I don’t buy designer wear. Why should I pay to advertise a name for an already multi billionaire company

Why would you be advertising for them? Not al designer clothing is covered in logos 😂😂

YABU those silly magazine features are only there to rouse up conversation. They don't really believe that Primark tat and designer clothes are comparable.

User018475022 · 24/07/2021 16:33

Primark may do a dupe handbag style but it's plastic and poorly made a decent quality handbag cannot be brought cheaply. I would always go quality when I can afford it and probably not bother with the other bits

Maireas · 24/07/2021 17:09

You cannot compare an Emilia Wickstead skirt to a Primark one! They will superficially look similar, but the fabric, cut, stitching and finish will be far better.
As pp have said, the quality is substantially different.
