Where I they growing?

They look like bilberries (also called whortleberries, whinberries, whinberries, blaeberries), which are related to, but not the same as, blueberries and grow wild.

They are smaller then blueberries and have those leaves. They're around now.

shouldistop · 24/07/2021 11:01

In the trossachs, Scotland.

Probably bilberry, but unless you're certain about the ID, you shouldn't eat random berries.

shouldistop · 24/07/2021 11:05

Yeah, that's what I told my husband. He ate one anyway Hmm

They are NOT blueberries- we grow those and they grow in little clusters

Galassia · 24/07/2021 11:07

Blackthorn?

Badgercity · 24/07/2021 11:08

There’s an app called PictureThis which will ID plants.

Did he think they tasted like blueberries?

shouldistop · 24/07/2021 11:08

Not blackthorn as they have flat tops

Bilberry.

FreezerBird · 24/07/2021 11:13

@shouldistop

In the trossachs, Scotland.
I meant more, in a garden or wild?

But Bilberries! Or probably blaeberries if you're in Scotland.

shouldistop · 24/07/2021 11:13

Oh sorry, wild

Bilberries. Bilberry pie is delicious I have a special contraption to pick them which I got from amazon.

Wbeezer · 24/07/2021 11:19

Yes those are blaeberries, aka wild blueberries, the Trossachs are a good place for them, I've picked them many times, they make the best jam.

Turquoisesol · 24/07/2021 11:21

Following. We used to eat wild blueberries like these as children. But as an adult I am wary in case they are not and I choose the wrong Berry.

DreamingOfTheSouthOfFrance · 24/07/2021 11:25

Just adding my yes to the bilberry posters. Delicious - I pick small quantities when dog walking and freeze them until there's enough to make a pie

Themusicis0utside · 24/07/2021 12:24

Bilberries. Enjoy them but watch out for ticks.

Cyw2018 · 24/07/2021 12:32

Bilberries. They are doing really well this year, as are the wild/alpine strawberries.

Yummy!

shouldistop · 24/07/2021 12:37

After your reassurances and a bit more research online we let 4yo ds pick a load of them which he was delighted about.

Yes, blaeberries/bilberries/whortleberries - aka wild form(s) or cultivated blueberries. Delicious :)

IsobelEd · 24/07/2021 12:44

@shouldistop

Not blackthorn as they have flat tops
And bloody hell, your DH would have known if he popped a raw blackthorn / sloe into his mouth! He certainly wouldn't want another! 🤢
joystir59 · 24/07/2021 12:44

Need a close up of the berries
