Smashed Glass and Football

Posting on behalf of someone who is just looking for reassurance/advice.

Brief background... there are a few children on estate who have taken to playing football out on the road (private estate road). Nothing wrong with it, but they have started kicking the ball very hard and it's going into people front gardens/back gardens which they then think they have the right to hope over fences and get the ball.
Person who is asking has a very large dog who was in the garden this morning and the ball came over the fence, one the the boys (he's about 12ish) climbed the fence. Obviously dog came up barking and lad had the fright of his life (person also in garden so called the dog back). Moments later there was a knock on front door asking for ball back. They were given a warning not to jump over peoples fence.
Not only is it going in garden but it is hitting people's front windows and this afternoon has shattered nextdoors window (they weren't in). They all ran off.
Friend is wondering whether she goes round to neighbour and let's them know who did it?
And is slightly worried that if she complains the kids might say the dog tried to bite them (didn't, just ran up warning -iyswim).

Any help on this will be appreciated.

Absolutely tell them.

Yes, definitely tell them. The dog didn't bite them so nothing to worry about.

MaggieFS · 23/07/2021 19:25

Yes of course she should tell them. Chances are quite a few neighbours will be irritated by this.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/07/2021 19:32

Obviously tell them

The simple test is would you want your neighbour to tell YOU ?

Then you all go round the parents and get them to pay for it

You have to band together - kids have been kicking footballs since the 18th century Grin

I've just screen shot her your replies so thank you.
Don't think neighbours are back yet.

Its a shame really that there isn't anywhere they can go nearby where there's no chance of damage to property.

Absolutely tell them.

Def tell them.

Even if they did say dog tried to bite them (doubt it) then a) they were trespassing and b) dog didn't bite then it cause any injury so their claim wouldn't hold water
