Managing period pain

Can anyone help?

I have PCOS. I don't have regular cycles but I usually have ways of coping that means my pain is manageable when it happens. One thing that really helps is lying on my stomach, another thing that really helps is walking around.

However.

I broke my knee recently. I cannot lie on my stomach or walk around. I've tried everything from painkillers to hot water bottle to eating bananas and I'm in agony. Is there anything else I can try? I'm really struggling today.

Naproxen is the only thing that will touch mine.

rainbowfairylights · 23/07/2021 13:34

@wombatspoopcubes Can I take that on top on codeine, paracetamol and ibuprofen though? I'm on strong painkillers for the knee as it is and I'm not sure I can take more painkillers.

I took Co-codamol paired with ibuprofen when I used to get v painful periods. Tens machine was sometimes helpful too.

You can take naproxen instead of ibuprofen, but not both as both are NSAIDS.

I bought a mini tens machine and it helps!

rainbowfairylights · 23/07/2021 13:41

A tens machine sounds good! Not a solution for this month though Sad

Does chocolate actually help or is that a myth?

I agree with naproxen, and you shouldn't need to take anything on top as it's pretty strong.
What I find really works is staying on top of the pain, taking painkillers before the pains starts and then every 2 hours before it ramps up.

Try buscopan for IBS. I use it and really rate it. I think it's on the shelf in the supermarket. I read maybe on here that some countries do use it for menstrual pain.

Have had mefanamic acid prescribed as well. I was taking ibuprofen but that made my stomach bad so doctor switched to the mefanmic acid.

Naproxen

Just replace the ibuprofen with it
