Quitting smoking day 1 - please give me all your tips and success stories

I'm on day 1 of quitting smoking and am about to jump out of my skin. I've quit so many times before, sometimes for just months and a couple times for multiple years (because I like to torture myself by relapsing and having to quit all over again, I'm super smart like that), so I KNOW I can do it, but I need support and positive quit vibes!

If you're an ex smoker, what really helped you get through the worst of the cravings? And what helped you keep your eye on the prize long term? My big problem is thinking I can smoke "just one".

My quitting plan involved vaping if the cravings got too intense (better than breaking down and buying a pack of cigarettes), but now (in the midst of day 1 cravings) I'm having a change of heart and thinking I should just suck it up and get through the nicotine addiction full stop.

Please send help!

Yay go you! 🎉

Hooray, go you! The best thing for me was how amazing flowers smelled when you're smoke free (and food tasted but we'll leave that one!).

Day 8 now! 🥳

@mintylovely yes!! Everything smells so much.... more than before. For better or worse. 😂

I'm wondering when my smoker's cough will go away. It's much much better than before but still there. My voice sounds so much better and clearer though, so there's that!

Well done, I bet your skin and eyes are starting to look brighter too! AMAZING YOU for doing so well Halo

Well done OP. Another Champix recommendation here - not me, but DP used it successfully a few years ago after many many failed attempts to quit with all the other methods. He's never been tempted since and it's been about 4 or 5 years.

Don’t put pressure on yourself by saying you are giving up smoking. Tell yourself you are not smoking today. Tell yourself that tomorrow too and so on. If you say you’re giving up altogether, that stretches out to infinity and seems insurmountable. One day at a time is less stressful and you don’t feel so bad if you have a lapse.

Too tip - u can’t smoke in the shower Grin
When I gave up the first 5 days I must of showered 3 times a day, it helped me to shut of the little voice in my head saying ‘just have one, what’s the harm’
